The Jackson 4-H Clothing club is Beaverhead County’s outstanding 4-H club in the 4H Better Club Meetings Contest sponsored by Montana Farm Bureau. Leaders Mrs. Margaret Nelson and Mrs. Mildred Dansie guided a large group including Rose Clemon and officers Sharon Stocks and Maizie Wenger with ten regular meetings, health and recreational projects, and Friendship Boxes sent abroad. Their dress revue was at the high school, and state-level competition will follow in Bozeman with a possible all expense trip to the Montana State College congress if selected.

Clifford A. Derry arrested Thursday by Deputy Charles Williams and charged with stealing a horse and saddle from Walter Paddock ranch. He pleaded not guilty and was bound over to district court. Charles Edwin Martin sentenced to 100 days in county jail for thefts from E. W. Stocker ranch after pickup by city police.

Life-Long Beaverhead County Miner Charles Thompson Dies
Charles Thompson aged 60, longtime Dillon resident and Bannack native born October 13, 1886, died early Sunday in Galen after three years of illness. He mined in Bannack and other area mines and in Butte. Funeral at Brundage chapel Wednesday at 2 PM with Rev. J. M. Hunter officiating. Interment in Mountain View cemetery. Survived by sisters Mrs. Harry Underwood, Mrs. Sarah Underwood, and Mrs. Vincent Chase. brother Louis Thompson. numerous nieces and nephews.

New Fixtures Installed by Armstead School District
Armstead school district voters approved a three mill levy to fund plumbing upgrades. This summer Ray Megquier installed a new pump and lavatory set with lighted mirrors and a drinking fountain. The district, now the county’s only modern third class school, prepares to open Sept. 2 with Mrs Nellie Decker supervising the primary room and Mrs Marvin Slehofer the upper grade.

Dillon bowling enthusiasts met in the city council chambers to elect officers for the coming year. Dale Tash leads the American Bowling Congress branch with Dave Hier as secretary treasurer. Saturday’s pre rodeo program sponsored by the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce drew about 1500 people to the depot lawn for contests and entertainment. A record turnout of contestants competed in events with winners including Billy Orr, Darlene Baril, Norman Wight, Floyd Vandegrift, Mary Harrington, and Johnny Ward among others. several races and a photo finish prompted a re run of the event.

Rev Omer Idso Injured When Horse Falls at Fairgrounds
Reverend Omer Idso of Sheridan suffered severe injuries Sunday when his horse fell on him at the fairgrounds while preparing for the Labor Day parade. He was transported to Barrett hospital by Dr. George L Routledge. the extent of his injuries was not yet determined. Idso recently transferred to Sheridan from a Methodist church pastorate.

The Dillon community crowned Jean Troupe as Rodeo Queen for 1947 after a public gathering on the depot lawn. Youth Sustains Broken Hip After Truck Crash
Pat Ryan son of Mrs Marion Thomas was a passenger in a truck driven by Darwin Peterson when the vehicle swerved on loose gravel near the water reservoir on the Jackson Elkhorn road and overturned. He was taken to Barrett hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Ralph Klessig of Great Falls Dies On Fishing Trip
Raymond Schwartz learned of Ralph Klessig’s death of Great Falls sudden death while a fishing trip. Klessig worked for Montana Power in Great Falls and was known in Dillon for visits with friends and relatives. Schwartz will travel to Great Falls for the funeral. Klessig leaves a wife two sons and his parents in Great Falls.

Thrill Packed Rodeo Draws Record Crowds at County Fair
At the county fairgrounds a two day rodeo drew the largest crowds of the year with Sunday and Labor Day programs. John Reynolds of Melrose and Ralph Stanton of Missoula shared the all around cowboy prize of 870 dollars each, winning two events apiece. Reynolds won full riding on Black Panther, while Stanton excelled in bulldogging and other events, with top times in calf roping and bareback riding.

Antoinette Bolinski 83 wife of Frank Bolinski died at home on Dutch Flat after years of ill health. Born April 10 1864 in Warsaw Poland she came to the United States as a child and married Frank Bolinski in 1915 in Minneapolis. The family has lived in Dillon since 1922. Funeral at Brundage chapel Thursday at 9 am with Mass at St Rose Church and burial in Mountain View cemetery. Trucks Collide at Reichle Gas Pump Causing Damage
Two trucks collided with the Reichle Mercantile gas pump on Thursday causing extensive damage to the pump and slight damage to the vehicles. C. E. Owen of Reichle reportedly signaled to turn into the store and was struck in the rear by JC W Anderson of Rigby Idaho. Anderson was booked for reckless driving and ordered to appear before Judge on September 30 with a $25 bond.
