The American Red Cross will run its annual Roll Call across communities from Armistice Day to Thanksgiving. Thos EB Luebben, local chapter chairman, announced J C Fuller as campaign director and said volunteers run the effort. The 3700 chapters are described as a bulwark of hope for distressed citizens.
Eighteen students earned spots on the junior high honor roll for the first six weeks. Ruth Jackson led with a 2.777, followed by Jo Ann Deputy 2.666 and Eleanor Thompson 2.625. others include Helen Morrow 2.444, Rosemary Girnus 2.375, Joe Taylor 2.333, William Tower 2.300, June Patrick 2.300, Jimmie Webster 2.800, Florence Boka 2.300, Betty Lee Harrison 2.260, John Wedum 2.222, Evelyn Nissen 2.200, John Hartwig 2.111, Dorothy Ann Hosmar 2.111, Ray Wolf 2.100, Glenn Pyeatt 2.000, Howard Morse 2.000, Alice Davis 2.000. Theta met last night at Miss Constance Barretts home.
The Lutheran Intermountain Circuit meetings in progress since yesterday will close tonight with the fifth session attended by pastors and district officers. The Women’s Missionary Federation also held sessions at the Lutheran church under the theme Christ and His Church. Speakers included Rev. A. M. Skindlev of Spokane and district W M F president Mrs Ed Granmo along with several Montana pastors and circuit officers. Circuit officers were elected this morning.
Among those present in addition to teachers were Mr and Mrs E L Wheat Mrs Kenneth Wheat Mrs A I Cashmore Leone Cashmore Mr and Mrs William Dunn Jr and Cecilie Morrison. Harold Wheat played first flute in the orchestra.
Montana State Normal college plans a homecoming game next Saturday against Intermountain Union at the fairgrounds. A record crowd is expected after a 7-7 tie in Helena last week. The event is sponsored by the MN club the Women’s Athletic Association and the Kampus Kadets with a Friday pep rally and Saturday night dance. Coach Herb Kakuske’s Bulldogs will play the full game with no substitutions.
Beaverhead Young Republican league members will convene at 7 30 p m at the county central committee headquarters in the Mellenblock. Chairman Leonard Schulz announced the session may be the last before the general election. At last Thursday's meeting the league adopted by laws and named L Ott Gordon as delegate to a state conference in Missoula. Quarterly meetings were set with the first on Lincoln's Birthday February 12. Speakers included John G Albers, candidate for
Tom Jones and James Nelson, long time residents of the county farm, died after long illnesses. Funerals were held at Brundage funeral home with interment at Mountain View cemetery. Dillon housing leader urges public use of Federal loan plan to repair and improve properties, linking it to community improvement.
The Agitators' club studies international relations and plans officer elections at the next meeting. It is developing an excellent library approved by the Carnegie Foundation which contributes publications on national and international issues. The Foundation does not influence the club beyond furnishing materials. The club debaters focus on this year's question.
Over seventy people attended a public card party at St James guild hall last Wednesday for the local Girl Scout fund. Prizes were awarded in contract bridge and pinochle with high and consolation winners named. Refreshments followed the games. Warren Shaw spent the first of the week in Dillon from the Big Hole basin.
Martin Bezek of Toole Utah died Sunday night in an Idaho Falls hospital from injuries after a highway wreck near Lima Sunday afternoon. Sheriff’s office had no details. he was rushed to Idaho Falls after the crash. Allegedly struck by Frank Mittlemeier Apex rancher and Ethel Russell, 4-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs R D.
Beaverhead County Democrats plan a large rally at the Hartwig theatre Friday night with three of Montana’s four congressional candidates as speakers. Senator B. K. Wheeler will deliver the principal address, joined by James E. Murray and Rep. Joseph P. Monaghan. Chairman C. E. Blinn announced the event, expected to draw many county candidates to the platform. The meeting starts at 8 o'clock.

Three Dillon educators spoke at the Dillon Rotary dinner about Montana Education Association district sessions. Principal Wahl summarized highlights from Butte, including the all state orchestra concert. Prof. Rush Jordan described Bilings. Dr. Sheldon K. Davis praised Great Falls sessions for attendance and program quality.
Beaverhead County braces for a record turnout in the 1934 election as 22 precincts report results from Dillon. Returns will be tallied at the courthouse and relayed by phone, with observers urged to listen in and follow precinct-by-precinct totals. Officials provide contact numbers for updates.
Senator George Melton and his son Monte traveled from Rochester Minnesota after Monte underwent treatment at the Mayo Clinic. The trip brought the family back with health attention completed and routine status expected.
Beaverhead county elk season opens Armistice Day November 11 and runs through November 15. Deputy State Game Warden Charles Price announced the season applies to the area bounded by Divide to Dillon, Dillon to Jackson, Jackson to Wisdom, and Wisdom to Divide, with a limit of one bull elk.
In observance of national 4-H achievement day a radio program will air Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 over NBC. Miss Lilian Stone county home demonstration agent announced KGIR Butte and KGHL Billings will carry the broadcast with talks by Thomas B. Cooper national director of extension service and M L Wilson formerly of Montana State College now a national agricultural leader. The first 45 minutes cover Montana features originating in Butte.
Frank A Hazelbaker Ernest Orr and Jack Keenan were named to Beaverhead county drouth committee working with state and federal groups. County Agent Bernard Williams said the survey will assess local feed stocks and livestock feeding, with questionnaires going to ranchers and returns requested promptly. The feed supply is believed to be well below normal.
In southwestern Montana a long and silent battle between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans shapes the Big Hole Basin. Dr. Eugene E. Perry, geologist, notes Atlantic wins two decisions to one for the Pacific so far in this ancient drainage contest.
John and Edward Emory pled guilty to larceny in district court before Judge Lyman H. Bennett and received 18 months in the state prison. The pair, with Pat Ryan, were linked to stealing a saddle, spurs, bridle, and other items from Dan Smith at Woods Livestock ranch north of Dillon. They were arrested in Jordan, Montana, brought back to Dillon, and moved to Deer Lodge. a separate report mentions two rifles stolen from Bond reservoir.
Wis dom, Oct 29 Special Mr J P Lossl gave Wisdom Woman's club library a copy of the Big Hole Breezes Vol 1 No 1 dated Sept 16 1898 printed in Jackson by John N Armstrong. Armstrong and family moved from Gibbonsville in June 1898 to start a Wisdom paper but lack of facilities and a blacksmith delayed it and they settled in Jackson. Continues on page 8.
A large crowd is expected at Paul Henneberrys Canyon resort next Saturday for a pre election dance. County candidates will attend as Claudia Faust and Don Julson perform stage versions of The Carioca and The Madeira Waltz with Marguerite Collins on piano. Don's Dance will provide the music for the event.
