War Production Board authorizes Wickard to steer livestock markets

The War Production Board gives Secretary Claude R. Wickard authority to direct orderly marketing of cattle sheep and hogs to prevent transport jams and uneven distribution. WPB Order L 170 sets farm machinery quotas for Nov 1 1942 to Oct 31 1943 with 20 percent of 1940 production for new equipment and 130 percent for repairs. Rationing of new machinery to farmers after Nov 1 will be on wartime need basis.
