Twin Bridges road bid set to open November 2
Bids will be opened by the state highway commission on November 2 for the Dillon to Twin Bridges project covering 3.441 miles. The contract includes grading, drainage structures, and one treated timber stock pass, part of a larger plan to improve the Dillon Twin Bridges highway corridor. The November agenda also lists seven road and bridge contracts for consideration.

Hereford Bulls Set for Dillon Auction Sunday Show
Sixty six registered Hereford bulls from 26 Montana breeders head to Dillon for the annual Hereford sale. Fred Reppert will oversee bidding with H B Sager and B R Williams assisting. Beaverhead county home demonstration clubs held their fifth annual achievement day at the Bagley school in Dillon. Exhibits showcased yearlong work in home furnishings, handcrafts, food preservation, foods and nutrition, and clothing with a Then and Now exhibit. A musical drama Then and Now or Mary Pretty Mary featured Bozeman creator Carrie Mae Moore, with a large local behind the scenes team and a Claudia Faust pupils dance.

Billings Polytechnic held off a persistent Montana Normal eleven 7 to 0 at the fairgrounds gridiron. Poly drove for the winner in the final quarter as Brown scampered five yards for the decisive score with Woolston adding the extra point. Next Saturday the Bulldogs face Carroll College in Helena.

Officers of the Dillon Camera club were elected at a regular meeting Monday night Ed Olson was named president succeeding Walter Stephan Jr who is now attending the University of Iowa. Other officers are Dr R D Curry vice president and Mrs J C Wedum secretary treasurer both re elected. M. D. Cahill of Cahill and Mooney reported on the Beaverhead county high school construction. He noted 23 000 sacks cement 6100 cubic yards sand and gravel 4000 board feet lumber 270 tons reinforcing steel 29 tons structural steel 5000 square feet steel sash and glass 1395 feet glass blocks new lighting method 12120 square yards bathing and plaster 35000 square feet roofing and 52200 square feet flooring. About 83000 man hours spent excluding plumbing heating and electrical work.

Dillon Girl Dies After Illness in Great Falls
Miss Lillian Christensen aged 19 died Monday morning at Columbus hospital in Great Falls after a lingering illness. A Dillon girl and Beaverhead County High School graduate of 1938 she trained as a nurse at Columbus hospital. She was active in student affairs including Kappa Lambda Gamma, declamation squads, drill team and the senior play cast.

Mrs. Cato S. Keith, 55, died Sunday night at her Reichle home after a lingering illness. She lived in Reichle for 14 years and left a husband, two sisters in Boston and Pittsburgh. Beaverhead county Future Farmers of America stock judging team with LaRue Cantrell John Hartwig and Dennis Smith placed fourth in sheep judging and fifteenth in all classes at the national convention in Kansas City tied to the American Royal show. Horse Lost 40 Years Is Found by Miners
Jack Porter of Dillon lost a horse and harness at Banmfack in 1900 when ground collapsed near a water filled pit. A mining crew uncovered the horse last week in tailings, with the harness intact and the hide still on the bones. Beaverdead surveyor George Mellen recognized the horse and declared it Jack Porter’s.

Funeral Services For Local Rector Held on Thursday
The funeral of Rev. William H. Mitchell, Montana Episcopal rector, was held at St. James Episcopal church. The rite featured ministers from St. James, St. John's in Butte, and Deer Lodge, with hymns by the St. James choir. Pallbearers from Dillon and Townsend assisted, and interment was at Mountain View cemetery.
