County Assessor D M Best is summoned as the Legion convention and Legion auxiliary gather in Dillon for a major mining district meet on October 28. George M Gosman and Mrs Harold M Warner expected as speakers. About 200 delegates from multiple towns attend with separate 2:30 sessions and a 5:30 joint parade. A 6:30 banquet and later dance follow the program.

Beaverhead Pioneer Dies After Long Illness
Oly M. Best Beaverhead Pioneer and county assessor since 1932 died Saturday morning at his home after a lingering illness. A resident since 1885 he was born February 17 1857 at Vicksburg Michigan and educated there. He worked for the Grand Trunk railroad twelve years before moving west and arriving in Dillon July 4 1885. He later joined L C Fhyrie Co and retired from railroading in 1887 to become a partner with Fhyrie, Dillon merchant.

Seventy five registered Hereford bulls go on the auction block at the Dillon Hereford sale to be held at the livestock pavilion at county fairgrounds Monday afternoon October 30. The bulls are offered by 26 consignors. A Hereford show will be held Sunday October 29 with all bulls shown and judged. Cash prizes totaling 75 will be awarded. Sunday evening a Chamber of Commerce smoker features boxing rounds by amateur scrappers from Butte. Dillon Choral Club Begins Season With Meeting
The Dillon Choral club held its first meeting of the season in the Bagley building music room. Mrs. W. G. Gilbert will continue as director with Mrs. T. W. Sargent as accompanist. The executive board includes Mrs. Sylvester Meade chairman and others handling secretary treasurer publicity and library duties.

Beaverhead sportsmen oppose early duck season date
Members of the Beaverhead Sportsmen's Association oppose the proposed early opening of this year’s duck season in Montana. Deputy Game Warden Charles Price says opposition is widespread among state sportsmen. They favor keeping November fully open to exploit peak northern duck migrations. Beaverhead Sportsmen Seek Patrols for Elk Area
The Beaverhead Sportsmen's association urged the state game commission to certify special deputies to patrol south of Dillon where Yellowstone park elk were planted. They also asked for a paid deputy as illegal elk killings have been reported and a $50 reward plus a life membership were offered for convictions. Approximately 9,000 native elk are involved in the area.

Rev William H Mitchell longtime Montana Episcopal clergyman dies at home in Dilton after a heart attack. Born September 8 1861 in Drummondsville Quebec he studied in Montreal and was ordained in Birmingham Alabama. He served 35 years in ministries across Alabama Ohio South Carolina Montana and retired in 1933 before moving to Dilton.

O A Schulz and Morrison ranches flock led sales in Centennial valley as 1,500 head of 2-year-old ewes sold for $10 each to Sam Dawes of Willow Creek. Local sheepmen called the price a high mark for ewes in recent years. The sheep had summered in the Centennial valley and surrounding area.

Beaverhead county home demonstration clubs plan their fifth anniversary achievement day on October 21 at Gagey school in Dillon. Inquests Held Here On Two Deaths
Coroner James E. Phillips held inquests into the deaths of John Peterson a 66 year old Beaverhead rancher and Eric Runer a 21 year old Big Hole basin ranch hand. The Peterson jury ruled a gunshot wound from a gun in Eric Runer’s hands caused his death. The Runer inquest found a self inflicted gunshot wound with a 30 30 caliber rifle as the cause.
