Wool incentive to stay at 62 cents next marketing year
The 62 cent shorn wool incentive will continue through the 1957 marketing year beginning April 1. Leo Kolstad of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service says payments will keep the national average wool return at last year’s level. For the year ending March 31, 1956, growers received $44.90 per $100 on shorn wool and 77 cents per hundredweight on unshorn lambs, with total wool payments around 5.5 million dollars. Montana producers received 3,032,879.33 dollars.

Wool incentive program outlined for 1957 payments
The act aims to promote 300 million pounds of wool with an incentive ceiling at 110 percent of parity and a cap at 70 percent of tariff receipts. Payments follow the 1956 method, with shorn wool based on cash return percentages and lamb payments for unshorn sales. The 1957 rate is 101 percent of the September 15 1956 parity price.
