Word reached here of a girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cosgrove in Los Angeles on October 12. Mr. Cosgrove previously lived here and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Cosgrove.
Growers in Missoula gather for a meeting as the Sheepmen set plans to discuss market conditions and pasture needs. Officials from local farming groups outline agendas and anticipated outcomes for the session.
Montana Wool Growers Association will convene January 15 to 17 in Missoula. W Dert of Dillon, association president, says national authorities on sheep and wool will address the meeting. Attendees urged to contact Missoula Chamber of Commerce for reservations.
The Normal college will be represented by faculty members at five divisions of the Montana Education Association. In Kalispell Prof. Rush Jordan will lead the Alumni luncheon and join a panel on national economic problems. Dean Anna C. Moser attends Glasgow, Miss Lucille Peck organizes the college luncheon, and Palm Room luncheon host Mrs. Grace Norris Miller. Miles City hosts luncheon led by Richard Beardsley.
Las Vegas reports Lt. Clifford A. Dougherty takes command of the 353rd squadron at the Air Corps Gunnery School, after moving from Dillon to Nevada. He recalls a sparsely developed base on arrival and expresses satisfaction with air force life over infantry.

Twenty six teachers from county rural schools attended a two day conference at the high school with four state superintendents present. Douglas Gold Stanley Teel S Nedlick and Miss Elizabeth Ireland addressed the group and Co Supt Miss Margaret Sweeney called the meeting a success.
Jack Costello 63 a Lima ranch worker died suddenly at the Dillon Sheriff's office after being brought in by Lima Town Marshal Lowell Davis. He had acted oddly and became ill. Dr. W H Stephan ordered hospital transfer but Costello collapsed and died before arrival. He recently worked on Gleed ranches near Lima. No funeral arrangements announced.
The Bayers Hereford bull sale will be held at the new Butte stockyards a week from Saturday Nov 1. Seventy five high quality bulls from the Bayers Hereford ranch at Twin Bridges will be offered by auctioneer Fred Reppert of Decatur nd. Montana bulls have sold well to buyers from Wyoming California Idaho Nevada and other states, and the sale aims to help ranchers replace stock and improve herds.
Dougan Luebben son of Mr and Mrs T E Luebben 924 S Pacific Dillon earned dean's honor roll status at Kemper Military School Boonville Missouri for the first grade month The roll includes students above 87 and represents less than 18 percent of the corps
The Montana state railroad commission granted Union Pacific's request to discontinue day trains 30 and 31 between Butte and Monida for the duration of the National Defense Program. The order, issued Oct. 14, followed a hearing in Butte on Oct. 7 where counsel for Beaverhead County and Irvine & Cottom of Dillon appeared. The railroad argued shortages of equipment and power and that night trains 29 and 32 plus highway buses would maintain service. The order notes restoration upon program termination and does not specify a discontinuance date.
At Barrett hospital last Wednesday October 15 a son was born to Mr and Mrs Ralph Anderson of Wise River Mr and Mrs Melvin Wilbur of Dillon are parents of a boy born last Friday at the hospital A son was born to Dr and Mrs Marlin K Farmer of Dillon in a Columbus Ohio hospital according to word received here

R. M. and Jack Barrett departed yesterday for Canada to hunt wild geese, pursuing a seasonal trip noted in local notices.
Beavers defeated Park County Rangers 25 6 behind a smooth backfield and strong line with multiple touchdowns including Conger Rogan connections. Normal Bulldogs edged State College Bobkittens 12 6 after a late 4th quarter drive and Burgess Cline combination. Beavers face Butte Central Maroons next, Bulldogs travel to Montana Mines Ore Digars.
Beaverhead sportsmen begin the pheasant and Hun partridge season at 7 a m on Sunday October 26 continuing through Sunday November 16. Daily bag limits are three pheasants and three huns with a two day possession limit. Only cock pheasants may be killed and guns must be plugged to hold three shells. Restricted areas are posted by landowners. On Armistice Day and Sundays hunting starts at 7 a m. other days from noon until dark.
Pete Best a Dillon youth suffered severe injuries to his left hand when a shotgun breach exploded as he fired at ducks while canoeing with his father J P Best a few miles north of town. Officials said the accident resulted from a too heavy charge for the gun. clothing shielded his forearm and only minor facial cuts were sustained.
Gov. Sam C. Ford proclaims November 2 to 8 as Prevent Inflation Week urging citizens and organizations to focus on inflation issues. Beaverdread County defense savings committee chair W. W. Hawkins outlines observance plans and emphasizes saving money to cushion deflation after wartime economy.
The Dillon Hereford Futurity bull show and sale, touted as the state’s spectacle, opens Sunday with 76 registered bulls on display and $425 in top prizes. Bulls born before 1940 compete for two-year-old and older prizes while junior yearlings and other classes vie for additional awards. The event features judging, a stockmen’s contest, a smoker at the Elks club, and a $525 prize night with trophies.
Beavers coach D L Johnson says two extra games widen the nine game schedule. They will host St Peters in Anaconda on October 31 and play Armistice Day as the Legion celebration feature with opponent to be announced.
Olive M Baldwine Harrison a pioneer resident known for nursing the sick and supplying frontier communities at the Grasshopper ranch died after a long illness. Born October 15 1862 in Fulton County Illinois she moved to Montana in 1887 and helped develop the Grasshopper area leaving nine children and nineteen grandchildren. Funeral services by Rev L Belle Long will be Thursday at 2 pm at Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. George Gosman hosted Theta club at Miss Clara Plant’s house Tuesday evening. Bridge served as the diversion with score awards going to Mrs. Mabel Erwin and Constance Barrett. Refreshments followed the games.
The Dillon Bowling Center with four alleys opened Monday evening in a formal ceremony. Mayor Bert Megquier rolled the first ball as Butte Marquette defeated Dillon Old Timers 2,798 to 2,388, and mae Wintergarden topped Dillon 2,499 to 3. Officials included H. M. Brundage and L. J. Hartzell, with D. W. Paddock among managers.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Willard N. Alverson were held at the Brundage chapel with Rev. Belle Long officiating. She died last Saturday at her daughter’s home. interment followed in Mountain View cemetery. Survived by her husband four daughters three sons grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
