Armistice Day Planned With Full Public Program

Legion committee led by D. W. Paddock organizes a day of events at Beaverhead High School. The program includes a patriotic program in the auditorium, a football game at the fairgrounds, a 6:30 p.m. veterans banquet with speakers, and the 9:30 p.m. Armistice ball at City Hall. Beaverhead Post also hosts an open house for World War veterans and service members at the Metlen hotel dugout.

Car Collision at Jack’s Corner Mild Damage Reported

Wilhelm Jensen and Fred Bridenstine drove cars that collided at the corner of Jack’s Street today. Neither occupant was injured but both vehicles suffered substantial damage.

Saints Begin Winter Social Season With Dancing and Cards

Exalted Ruler Homer Faust of the Dillon Ells lodge announced that the regular lodge meeting set for Nov. 11 will be held Saturday, Nov. 8. The gathering opens the winter social season with an old fashioned dancing and card party chaired by Herman Schwab.

A large crowd gathered at the Hereford stock show held beside the county fairgrounds grandstand in ideal fall weather. Bud Harrison of Polaris won the stockmen's judging contest, with Mrs. H B Sager second, Jess Tope of Wisdom third, and Mrs. Tom Clemon of Jackson fourth.

Ott Gordon Promoted in Navy Rating from Bremerton Yard

Ott Gordon of Dillon, long employed as an electrician at the Bremerton government shipyards, earned his second class rating as his probation period ended and anticipates another promotion soon. He was active with the Dillon Rifle Club and notes rifle matches at Seattle with high scores using iron and tele scope sights, including a 91x100 off-hand and 97x100 prone.

OES Past Matrons Night Observed at Mizpah Chapter

Mizpah chapter No 13 O E S held Past Matrons Night at the Masonic hall with a 6 pm reception and a Rainbow Girls banquet in the dining room. Mr and Mrs Jardine Rife chaired the lodge meeting while past matrons filled most chairs. Mrs Waldron Boger and Mrs Erwin Christensen organized the music program.

The Dillon Rotary Club noted Navy Day at its last night meeting in the Methodist church supper room. A. L. Koch of the navy recruiting station at Butte spoke, with T. Lee McCracken presiding. He traced naval history and Roosevelt’s support for a strong navy.

Wary pheasants and Hungarian partridges held their own against hunters in Beaverhead valley Sunday. Deputy Game Warden Charles R. Pride ran three checking stations with over a hundred cars checked. No violations or arrests were reported and no accidents occurred despite a large turnout.

Dillon youth dies by own action amid army absence

Kenneth Dilley, 25, a U. S. Army private from Dillon, died from a gunshot in Calaveras county after being reported AWOL from Fort Leonard Wood. Found with a 38 caliber revolver nearby, coroner John Gardella said death appeared self-inflicted. Dilley, a Dillon native, had lived there until moving to California last April to enlist. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Oren C. Dilley.

Seven Dillon Area Men Drafted for November Call

Beaverhead county will send seven men to the Missoula induction station on November 5 at noon. The group includes a California transfer and five Montana residents: Andrew H. Anderson Dillon Peter H. Sweeney Dell Walter B. Nettick Frank P. Abish Dillon Harold J. Scriv Wise River and Lawren Knudson Wisdom. J C Fuller clerk of the local board announced the report time and location. State selective service quarters ask employers to list needs with the nearest employment office to aid reemployment of Montana men released from service.

Weather Shift Brings Snow Flurries and Chill

After two weeks of warm ideas the region saw a weather change with clouds and snow flurries and a chilly north wind. Hunters watched for tracking snow and the flight of northern ducks while residents hoped for a short spell. The lowest temperature reported was 15 above.

Forger Hobbs Sentenced Five Years in Prison

Wallace Hobbs was sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to forgery in district court before Judge H. G. Rodgers on Monday. He was arrested after attempting to cash a $21.50 check drawn on Roy McNinch of Dell at McCracken's. Hobbs claimed his home was in Wyoming.
