Virgil Tolliver sits in the county jail after being charged in a forged $26 check case. Deputies John Troupe and Boyd Quick arrested him while he bought a bus ticket after cashing the check drawn on Cris Larsen of Dillon. Funeral rites were held Monday at noon in the Presbyterian Melrose for William Melrose. The Rev. presided as funeral services followed his long illness. He was laid to rest in Melrose Cemetery.

The Civil Aeronautics bureau weather station sets sunrise for 6 48 tomorrow with gunfire allowed after 6 48. The forecast lists sunrise times for the next six days and requires shooting to end by 4 PM each day per game wardens.
Mrs. Anderson and her daughter traveled to Billings last week for medical treatment. Mr. Anderson joined them Friday to bring them home.
The Wise River Woman's club hosts Beaverhead County Federation of Woman's clubs on Saturday Oct 18 in Wise River. Attendees include Dillon and Wisdom delegates with the theme Education for a Strong America. Morning session at the school house features an assembly, invocation, and welcome.
The Beaverhead county high school Achievement Day drew over 130 women from across the county. Events included exhibits inspection, a noon luncheon for 108 at St James guild hall, performances by Daniel Boka Marion Wiant and Mary Lou Stroeder, and 4 H awards for Dell and Melrose agricultural members with Mrs Clifford Dougherty cited as club leader.

J L Mayland secretary of the local chamber of commerce returned yesterday from Great Falls where he had been visiting his father who just celebrated his 70th birthday.
Beavers and Bulldogs fell to stronger football teams as they traveled to Bozeman and Helena. Bozeman edged Beavers 19 to 6 after fumbles by the Beavers set up two Gallatin Valley touchdowns. Carroll College beat the Normalites 7 to 0 in Helena with a sharp passing attack. Next weekend the Beavers meet Livingston at home Friday and the Normal club faces the State College freshman Bobkittens, following last year’s 6-0 Armistice win.
E. E. Hazel of Dillon sold Elkhorn Springs, a popular swimming and skiing resort with a hotel, eight cabins, and plunge administration, to T. Lee McCracken. Anker Larsen has leased the resort for this winter’s ski season, with the sale arranged through local real estate man Hugh J. Scully.
Beaverhead farmers received 3284.63 dollars in parity payments for 1940 from the Agricultural Adjustment administration. Montana farmers statewide were paid 3,211,616.39 dollars with all but 10,000 already disbursed, according to AAA officials.
