Eliza Barry Dies After Long Illness in Dillon

Mrs Eliza Nellie Barry a longtime Dillon resident died Monday at Barrett hospital following a long illness. She was born in Washington DC December 17 1856 and lived in Provo Utah before moving to Dillon 28 years ago. Survived by daughter Mrs Carl Hanson Armstead and sons William California and Clarence Washington. Funeral set for 10 30 am tomorrow at St Rose Catholic Church with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Dillon Shakes club to lead year of readings and Halloween plans

The Dillon Shakes club program for the year features session leaders and reading reviews from October through April. The Dillon P.T.A. will sponsor two Halloween parties on Oct. 30 with prize divisions and refreshments.

Donations Satisfy Train Service Fund Drive in Dillon

Dillon residents rally to support local train service. Edwin R. Buck reports $50.60 collected in jars from businesses, with $6.11 from Metlen bar, $4.42 from Zap’s bar, and $4.02 from Crystal bar. Jars refilled next day, signs erected by Montana Power staff. Service men express gratitude through letters, while local volunteers deliver cigarettes, candy, gum, magazines and cookies from Dillon women.

October draftees to leave Dillon Friday

Beaverhead county Red Cross leaders Edwin R. Buck and Margaret Sweeney attended a Missoula district meeting stressing Junior Red Cross work for armed forces. An October draft contingent will depart Friday for Fort Douglas for induction. The group includes Hugh Radwell Jack E. Sturm Class H. Deputy Thomas E. Judge Kenneth R. Welborn Dean F. Beaverhead High Students Entertain at Dillon Rotary

Beaverhead County High School musicians entertained Dillon Rotary Club at the weekly dinner with performances directed by Fred Honeychurch. Highlights included pieces by Jessie Knox, Dorothy Ann Boke, Daniel Boka and a boys trio. Ardella Lanner accompanied all numbers as club leaders staged a skit on Rotary and Kiwanis rivalry.

The Beaverhead County Federation of Women’s clubs held its semi annual convention in Dillon with sessions at the Normal college residence halls. President Mrs. Lee R. Light opened the meeting and Mrs. W. B. Willey welcomed delegates on behalf of the Dillon Shakespeare club, emphasizing fellowship as America’s way of life and moral uplift. Public health nurse Miss Eléanore Nelson outlined county activities planned for the coming period.

Residents to Register for Ration Books in Beaverhead County

Beaverhead county residents must apply for Ration Book No 4 on October 27 28 or 29 per D A Galt county rationing supervisor. Applicants in Dillon and the surrounding area should attend training school sessions on those dates from 10 to 12 1 30 to 5 or 7 to 9. Books may also be obtained at Wisdom Basin Mercantile Jackson Wise River and Lima stores. Stamps in the new book become usable starting November 1 prompting early applications. a form is printed in todays Examiner.

Jewelry Drive Planned By Girl Scout Council

Girl Scout Council members met at Mrs. Fred Bridenstine’s home to organize a costume jewelry collection for soldiers in the South Seas. Old jewelry can be offered via a calling scout and sent to Mrs. George Forsyth at Gregson for repair and shipment. The group also outlined a Nov. 6 rally at city hall with awards, games, refreshments, and a talk on Juliette Low.

November call issued by local board for Beaverhead men

The Beaverhead local selective service board issued the November call for men to report for physicals before induction. They must report November 1 and travel to Butte the next day for examinations, including Shell Everett Martin of Baton Rouge and others from Dillon, Laconia New Hampshire, Dallas Texas, and Towner North Dakota. The Army personnel group departs Friday night for the Spit Lake induction center.

Beavers Sweep Be It Reds 34 to 6 in Beaverhead Clash

Beaverhead county high school grid squad crushed the Butte Reds 34-6 at the high school stadium. Boka sparked the attack with a 14 yard dash setup and a touchdown, Krause added an extra point, and Davis and Boka scored again with Pierce kicking. The Beavers improved on a prior 13-0 meeting and extended their winning streak after a 33-12 win over Lima.

Beaverhead Hereford Bull Sale Tops Auctions and Show

The Beaverhead county sixth annual Hereford sale and show drew strong bids. Mobery's auction sold 77 bulls at an average of 496.75 with top stock achieving 2 700. A C Bayers led show honors with six firsts and one second, taking grand and reserve titles in open and show classes. Bayers plans next week’s sale in Butte featuring 105 yearlings.

Armistice Day Plans Announced by Legion and Dillon Elks

Dillon Elks lodge 1554 plans a special session Friday Nov 5 with Le Roy Schmidt of Butte visiting as grand lodge officer. Beaverhead American Legion outlines Armistice Day events for Nov 11 including school programs, a football game, Legion meeting, and a public observance. parade precedes the game and Beavers’ opponent to be named soon. Beaverhead Post also welcomes Lew Brundage, new World War II veteran member, into the post alongside George Gosman who is a former state commander.

Service Men to Receive Community Christmas Gifts

The Citizens' committee seeks addresses of service men not invited to prior parties to send Christmas tokens of appreciation. Snow Storm Pleases Ranchers and Hunters in Montana

Ranchers and hunters welcomed the first heavy snowfall of the season in Southwestern Montana. The storm ended a long dry spell, moistening fields and ranges, and improving hunting conditions in the mountains. Elk and deer herds may boost meat supplies, though elk harvest remains limited to select areas.

Pair sentences in court reflect multiple guilty pleas

Lazell W Patrick received a five year state prison term after pleading guilty to grand larceny involving a pickup truck owned by Herman Peterson. Maggie Annie Mertz pleaded guilty to two forgery counts with five year sentences on each, to run concurrently, for cashing a forged check. Mr and Mrs Walter Foster and children plan to spend the winter in Wilson Kansas.

Heavy lamb and cattle shipments from Beaverhead County

Beaverhead County reports heavy movement of livestock with about 75 cars of lambs and 50 cars of cattle sent out in the past week across Dillon and other UP shipping points. Prices have fallen to 10 to 11.5 cents from a high of 13.5 in earlier season, blamed on feed shortages in feeder stock districts.

Pheasant Season In Beaverhead Opens October 31

Beaverhead county will open to pheasant hunting from October 31 to November inclusive. The State Fish and Game Commission set a daily bag limit of three cock pheasants and a six cock limit after the first day following a Helena meeting.
