William Heaston, manager of Vigilante Rural Electrification, reports rapid progress on the Melrose to Dillon line. Crews string six to seven miles daily and the section is nearly ready for energization, though 75 percent of potential users must be wired or pledged to be wired before activation. After this section, Dillon to Twin Bridges and Dillon to Lima will follow, and the co op’s name was changed from Jefferson Valley Rural Electric Cooperative.

The Legion auxiliary finalized convention plans at a Monday meeting with Mrs D W Paddock presiding. Joe Foss age 93 died Monday night at Barrett hospital after a brief illness. Born April 1, 1873 in Hyram Utah he came to Beaverhead county in 1918 and worked on local ranches. Surviving relatives live in Idaho Falls Great Falls Idaho Seattle and Utah. Funeral service was held at 1:30 pm at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View Cemetery.

The Dillon Chamber of Commerce seeks aid to remove snow on the Bannack pass section of the Armstead Leadore highway. Sec J L Mayland told the board Monday night and the request will go to district forest service offices in Missoula and Ogden. Countermeasures by Beaverhead county improved some worst sections last summer but future snow removal remains challenging. A graded forest service road from the pass top to Leadore meets Bureau of Public Roads standards.

A fire at the Davis Conoco service station was quickly extinguished about 4 AM yesterday. Night attendant Marion Pyeatt was cleaning the grease rack when a spark from a wire brush apparently ignited gasoline. Damages were confined to doors and walls. fire department arrived promptly.

John Peterson 66, a Beaverhead county cattle leader known as the cattle king of Montana, was killed Friday about 10:30 am at his Big Hole basin ranch near Jackson. Youthful employee Eric Runer, 21, sought as the slayer, was found dead Saturday 500 yards from the scene with a self inflicted 30 30 rifle wound after firing three shots at Peterson. Cattle Rustler Sought After Stock Thefts
A cattle rustler, unnamed by officers, is being hunted in the Big Hole basin by Sheriff Barney Larsen, deputies, and Stock Inspector D. W. Erwin. The thief allegedly drove Warren Hughes’s cattle from Wisdom over the continental divide to Storm Lake, with nine head reported missing from Hughes’s ranch between Ralston and Fish Trap last week, in addition to a prior theft.
