Funeral Here For Dillon Matron Elizabeth Cornell

Elizabeth G Cornell a Dillon resident for 24 years died suddenly in Houston Texas while staying with her sister. The 59 year old native of Huntsville Texas married to Roscoe Cornell a prominent local sheepman and former mayor. She had gone to Houston to visit a gravely ill sister when she died in her sleep.

Well Known Veteran Fred Sharpe Dies in Rochester

Fred Sharpe, longtime Beaverhead County ex service man, died last Thursday morning in Rochester Minnesota at age 43. A North Carolina native, he moved to Montana in 1916 and Beaverhead county in 1918. He served overseas in the war and later ran a Centennial valley homestead and worked on local ranches. The body was shipped to North Carolina for burial.

Dillon Club Sponsors Mel Dinner At Andrus Hotel

Representatives of six Dillon organizations joined more than 70 guests at a Dillon Business and Professional Women's club dinner at the Andrus hotel. Miss Genevieve Metlen presided and discussion centered on a Dillon children play program and a proposed playground project with support from several groups.

Beav erhead 4-H Clubs To Be Organized

Final steps toward forming 4-H clubs in Beaverhead county will be taken at a Dillon courthouse meeting Friday afternoon led by Charles B. Potter. Miss Lillian Stone and County Agent Bernard Williams called the gathering to establish a county 4-H council and launch active club work. Eligible members are boys and girls aged 10 to 20 with projects in horticulture, agronomy, livestock, economics, engineering, poultry, home economics, clothing, food prep, preservation, and room improvement.

Beaverhead Receives Fall Weather and Ballot Updates

Official ballots for the general election were delivered to Clerk and Recorder Albert S. Baker with absentee ballots to be mailed this week. 33 absentee ballots were sent on the first day to voters on file. Absentee voting is available at the clerk and recorder office for those away on election day. Beaverhead county has had autumn weather with rain and snow, the prior snowstorm noted as the heaviest in two years. Deer hunters reported success on opening day with L. H. Smith among the first to return with a deer.

Lima jail break suspect Vance held. Mangus also in custody

Claude Vance and Elmer Mangus, famed for a local jail escape, are back in custody after a suspected role in the October 7 Lima box car robbery. Vance was arrested in Idaho Falls by Undersheriff W. E. Barry. Mangus and a female companion were detained. Vance will be transported to Powell Wyoming to face kidnapping charges against a sheriff and two deputies from a prior robbery.

Karl Opp, a well known Dillon resident, was robbed by a man he befriended in Butte last night. After giving the stranger a dollar, the man returned with a gun and demanded more money, according to reports received today.

Business Men of Butte Plan Good Will Trip Through Dillon

More than 125 Butte business and professional men will arrive in Dillon Thursday at 5 30 and stay overnight as part of a three day good will tour visiting 32 cities. The party will travel in 50 cars with banners and sound equipment, featuring a German band, Treasure State quartet, Jack and Kitty Lee acts, street singers and blackface artists. Each stop includes a two minute talk by a Butte member.

Mrs Warren Stone Hurt In Accident Near Divide

Mrs Warren Stone of the Dillon Tribune office suffered cuts and bruises when wind hurled her from a moving car near Divide. She and her husband were en route to Butte when she tried to latch a door and was thrown out.

Normal College Plunge Schedule and Hours Adjusted

The Normal College pool opened on Monday October 16 with posted schedules at the college and training schools. Open periods include men and boys Tuesday 8:00 PM and women and girls Tuesday 4:45 PM Wednesday 8:00 PM and FridaySaturday 2:00 PM. Offices close Saturday afternoons to save fuel. main buildings heat limited after 1 PM Saturdays.

Federal relief aid to boost Beaverhead stock sale

Beaverhead county stockmen expect about 100000 dollars from cattle and sheep sales to the Federal Emergency Relief program. County Agent Bernard Williams said 8193 cattle brought 40661 dollars, with all cattle shipped and a small remaining quota. Sheep purchases to be completed by week end.

The Dillon Parent Teachers Association held its first meeting of the year at the primary building with 60 in attendance. Mrs. R. D. Curry chaired as Rev H. N. Tragitt opened with an invocation and the P. T. A. song. The theme is Today's Child in Tomorrow's World.

The Beaverhead County Young Republicans organized at a Saturday meeting of the county central committee in Dillon. Leonard Sehuds of Dillon was named temporary chairman, with Tom Clemon Pascal Bimat and others assisting. The first club meeting is set for Friday at 8 pm at Dillon headquarters, and L Ott Gordon was elected secretary.

Death of Bea verhead county resident J F Weber after pneumonia

J F Weber a Bea verhead county resident for four years died Thursday night at Barrett hospital from pneumonia. Born in St Louis he was 48. He came to the region in 1930 and ran several bee businesses in the county. Surviving are two sons and brothers Harry Weber of Blackfoot Idaho and George Weber of Illinois. Funeral services were held Saturday at Brundage chapel and the body shipped to Denver for burial.

Arkansas Slim Arrested for Missing Mail Delivery

Deputy U. S. Marshal Bickoff arrested Scott Newman known as Arkansas Slim at the Barney Green ranch in the Centennial valley. He faced an alleged failure to appear in federal court on a felony charge after missing a May trial date and left for Lakeview.
