Local Baptist meeting marks annual Rocky Mountain session

The Rocky Mountain Baptist association hosts its annual meeting at First Baptist church on Oct 17 and 18 with state and district leaders attending. Four sessions include an opening service by Esther McCullough and sermons by Rev. Baty and Dr. Douglass. women’s, ministers, and youth programs are planned. Dillon’s Ellos department store also marks its 55th anniversary with a major sale.

Seaverhead Ram Sale Set For Saturday Auction

The Seaverhead ram sale will be held at the county fair livestock pavilion Saturday afternoon with over 600 range rams on offer. Rams include Polled Herefords, Hamp shires and Cheviots among consignors such as Sheep Company of Bozeman Cook Sheep Company of Dillon and others. 20 purebred Hampireewes also listed with Col A G Jones Miles City acting as auctioneer and Col Luther Smith Dillon assisting. Murray Stebbins Montana Woolgrowers secretary will attend. Continued on page 3.

Dillon Rainbow Chapter Installs Its Local Officers

Dillon assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls installed its officers at the regular Wednesday meeting in the Ma inie hall. Eloise Olmsted became worthy adviser and the slate included Eve nne Tash as worthy associate advisor Lillian erry as Charity Isabel Watson as aith etc. Refreshments followed the session and two state leaders Mrs Bolton and Geraldine Goswell will attend the next meeting.

Dell Woman Elected Head Of Beaverhead Home Council

Mrs Pascal Bimat of Dell was elected chairman of the Beaverhead Home Demonstration council at the annual fall meeting held yesterday in the city hall council room. Mrs Harry Tash of Dillon was named secretary and Mrs Francis Gelhaus presided. Lillian Stone discussed the 1935 program and goals. A nominating committee was named and county farm conditions were reviewed by County Agent Bernard Wilhaths.

Beaverhead County Board Holds October Regular Meeting

Beaverhead county commissioners met October 7 and 8, 1935 in regular session with Commissioners Rife Jackson and Hartwig and Clerk Baker. They approved minutes from the prior session and the September extra session, gave quarterly approval to bonds and depository securities, and received a plat for Pintler creek in Sections 7 and 8, Two S 1 R 14 W. It notes 317.67 acres in Section 18 mistakenly credited to Deer Lodge county by former mapping.

Anniversary celebrations mark Jigs Hole Basin social

The Dilton Girl Scout annual card party at Jamies Guild Hall invites the public Friday with prizes for high and low scores and proceeds to offset event costs. In Wisdom end, Big Hole honors include the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Armitage and 10th anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Wharton, with a dinner for seventy at the Whartons’ ranch home.

Rotaryhead Pays Visit Dillon Club Address on Aristocracy of Service

District governor Dr Curtis Wilson of Rotary International spoke at the Dillon club dinner at the Metlen hotel on Monday night. He described Rotary’s work with 162000 members in 3200 clubs worldwide and urged service as aristocracy. He praised the Dillon club and highlighted Rotary youth programs and aid for crippled children. Captain T Strew of Birch Creek CCC camp attended and thanked the community.

Community Meeting a Success at Jackson Gathering

Over 160 residents from Big Hole basin and Grasshopper valley attended the annual event in Jackson. A box social dinner raised funds for local organizations while Dr. Robert E. Albright of the Normal college hosted. many group representatives spoke on community works before dancing to Francis Dean's orchestra.

An educational meeting for all corn hog growers in Beaverhead County is scheduled for October 22 at 2:00 p m in the city hall council chamber. All growers, contract signers or not, are urged to attend. Luther Smith, Secretary Beaverhead Corn Hog Control Association.

Beaverhead county high school clubs elected officers including Eda Jackson as president of Kappa Lambda Gamma and Ruth Kelly leading a newly formed language club with Bruce Gilbert as vice president. Senior, junior, sophomore and freshman officers were chosen for the Normal college with sponsors and advisers named.

Long Running Early Advertisements Unearthed in Dillon Examiner

A special Dillon Examiner edition reproduces the original 1891 advertisement for Dilela on the front page, unchanged copy for two months, with firms in the era updating ads only four to five times yearly. The page also includes the first issue story and an engraving of Elele store.

Froman, 88, Dillon Resident, Dies After Illness

Benjamin Froman, 88, longtime Dillon resident since 1882, died early Monday at Barrett hospital after a lingering illness. Born April 10, 1847 in California, he served as a government scout in the Idaho Indian wars. He ran the No. 10 saloon on North Montana Street and later engaged in ranching. Survived by a brother in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews in Idaho.

Growers of Wheat Plan Conference

Wheat growers of this section are invited to a community meeting at city hall tomorrow at 2 p.m. to discuss the new wheat contracts and general agricultural topics. Potato Grading Demonstration To Be Held Friday Night

County Agent Bernard Williams announced a potato grading demonstration to be staged Friday at 8 o clock in the basement of the Western Wholesale building. All growers and merchants are invited. The law requires grading after federal inspection and advertisement of each grade by the merchant.

Hunting Restricted On Red Rock Lakes Closed By Order

An executive order closes the upper Red Rock Lake and parts of Red Rock lakes to hunting in Beaverhead County. The President's action restricts access to the area, affecting duck hunters planning trips to the lakes and surrounding waters.
