Beaverhead Legion falls program kicked off at city hall

Beaverhead post of the American Legion opened its fall activities with a Thursday night meeting at City Hall led by Commander T. Lee McCracken. The group discussed Armistice Day plans including morning exercises, an afternoon football game, a veterans banquet, and an Armistice Ball that night.

Beavershead in heated campaigns as election nears

Dillon voters brace for a burst of activity as parties push Governor candidates and U S Senator campaigns in Beaverhead County. Democrats rally with Senator Murray and Ayers at the training school auditorium while Republicans prep their October 28 meeting with Tom Larson as speaker. Wisdom federation session highlights regional club reports

Beaverhead High School to Crown Fall Fun Fest Queen

Beaverhead county high school announces its Fall Fun Fest carnival on November 13 and 14 at the high school. Ten candidates were named for queen including freshmen Jo Ann eputy sophomores Bessie Knox and June Patrick juniors Mar sie Decker Elsie Lloyd and éne Megquier seniors Jose nne Verbance Lois Gilbert Vara Fairbanks and Marjorie Wet ore. Beaverhead students at Harvard donate rare Montana specimens

A former Beaverhead county high school honor student now at Harvard presented the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology with two rare finds from Western Montana. One is a horned toad from the Centennial valley, the first ever discovered there. The other consists of skulls and skins of pygmy rabbits from the same valley, possibly a new subspecies. The P. N. G. club will meet tonight at Mrs. Fred Dart's home.

Mary Hocking Named Assistant Registrar at Normal

Miss Mary Hocking of Butte, a Butte Business College graduate with seven years of office experience, fills the vacant assistant registrar post at the Normal college effective Oct 26. Dr. H. H. Swain visited the college, a former Normal president, and Frances Foster resigned as secretary to the president last week. The autumn quarter opens with a program including violinist Clair and pianist McFadden, a corelli themed piece, and a brief address by Rev. Arnold W. Nelson.

Second Annual Beaverhead Ram Sale Attracts Buyers

Buyers from Montana and neighboring states attend the second annual ram sale at the fair grounds livestock pavilion. Dillon officials announce application postcards are now available for stockmen to request a range examination ahead of the 1936 range-improvement program. A range examiner visits each ranch, drafts a report, and stockmen choose practices to implement with payments set by grazing capacity.

Card Party of Girl Scouts Friday to Aid Troops

The annual card party sponsored by the local Girl Scouts council will be at St James guild hall Friday at 8 pm. Tickets are selling well and a large turnout is expected with prizes to be awarded. Proceeds fund local troop expenses for the year and the organization has formed a third troop after a busy first meeting. Mrs Norman Henry leads the new group.

Voting time differs by precinct in Beaverhead county

County commissioners announced state statutes from 1935 set opening times by precinct size. Precincts with fewer than 100 registered voters start at 1 p m on November 3, while those with 100 or more voters begin at 8 a m. Polls close once all voters in a precinct have cast ballots but no later than 6 p m. Names of opening precincts listed.

Beavers Fall 38 to 7 to Gallatin High in Fairgrounds Battle

Gallatin High defeated Beaverhead 38 to 7 at the fairgrounds. Beaverhead scorers included Dugay on a 30-yard pass play with Gibbons adding the extra point. The game followed Beaverhead’s first half trailing 13-0 as Gallatin pulled away in the third and fourth quarters.

Floyd Pahnish of Beaverhead County High School will travel to Kansas City as Montana Future Farmers rep at the American Royal Livestock Show. He earned the trip for the best long-time farm setup and will join stock judging teammates Walter Wodacock and Lloyd Schmitt, with Oswald Brownlee and William Davidson also on the delegation. Davidson seeks the American Farmer degree, the organization’s top honor.

Hazelbaker Opens Campaign for Chief Executive

Montana Republican Frank A. Hazelbaker opened his bid for governor with a Kalispell rally the first in a series across the state before the November 3 election. Introduced by Flathead County Sen Robert Pauline he argued taxpayers deserve to keep more money, noting state revenues have nearly tripled in the last decade.
