Beaverhead Judges for November 3 Are Named

Beaverhead county Montana officials for the November 3 election are designated by the county board of commissioners. The regular monthly session of the Beaverhead board opened October 5, 1936, at 9:00 a.m. with Commissioners Martin Jackson, Edgar B. Rife, Chairman W. B. Hartwig, and Clerk Albert B. Baker. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Official bonds and depository securities were discussed and continued for page four.

Beaverhead Native Dies at Hospital

Frederick H. Thompson 46 well known Dillon resident died Sunday afternoon at Barrett hospital after a recent operation. Born April 22 1890 at Bannack he spent his life in Bannack and Dillon. Survived by six sisters and four brothers with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Brundage chapel with Rev J A Meeke officiating. Interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Republican Rally Set by Beaverhead Republicans October 28

Beaverhead county Republicans plan a public rally next Wednesday night at the training school auditorium. Speaker lineup includes U.S. Senate candidate Tom Larson and railroad commissioner candidate Charles Sheridan. Larson, Chateau stockman and longtime state senator, is one of the featured speakers.

Reunion Honors Big Hole Basin Pioneers at Jackson Home Site

Relatives gathered at the Jackson family home site ten miles below Wisdom for a picnic and reunion marking the 52nd anniversary of Herman and Antone Jacksons arrival in the Big Hole basin. The ranch now belongs to Ira Walker, with attendees including Martin C Jackson and numerous Jackson family members.

Three Dillon squads clash in weekend games

Three Dillon football teams posted results over the weekend. Montana Normal’s Bulldogs beat Billings Poly 25 to 0 at the Dillon fairgrounds, with Buckley Kruzic McGinley and Morrow Rouse scoring and Poly punts blocked three times. Beaverhead county high Beavers lost to Butte high Reds 21 to 0 in a revamped lineup. Dillon Independent trounced Birch Creek CCC 42 to 0, with Vandegrift Gibbons Roland Strasser and Lee crossing the line.

Charles Henry speaks at Dillon Rotary on world peace and Mann

Charles Henry was the principal speaker at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner at the Andrus hotel. He cited Channing Pollock on world peace as a long effort by millions, citing Horace Mann as an example of slow service improving life. Rotarian Sam Wilkinson spoke on an eight hour law. Arnold Clair, violin teacher at the college, played solos with Ralph McFadden at piano.

Absentee Ballots Clock Buildup For County Elections

The county’s clerk reports 103 absentee ballots sent by Monday with more mailed since. Ballots have reached distant locations including Washington D C. All ballots can be voted and mailed back in time. Absentee voting available at the clerk and recorder’s office for those absent on election day.

Beaverhead Man Lost Overnight Found Safe Near Warm Springs Creek

Phil Lyons a Lima resident vanished after crossing the divide during a mountain hunt with Reverend Clifford Mugge McGrath and John Jackson. A Beaverhead County search party led by Sheriff James A. McCollum scoured the upper Grasshopper district for two days before Lyons was spotted by Father Clifford near Warm Springs camp and reported in good condition.

Beaverhead county held its second annual ram sale at the county fairgrounds live stock pavilion last Wednesday. More than 509 rams sold at an average of 14.35 dollars, with a single bunch fetching 19.50 from purchaser George Brewer of Gillette Sheep Co Great Falls. Cook Arrested in Oakland on Robbery Charge

John Ernest Cook, linked with the Mangus brothers and Claude Vance in a Beaverhead jail escape, was arrested today in Oakland California on a robbery charge. He is the last of the quartet to be captured, the other three having been taken into custody. Rutherford Dunn of Ouray Colorado was visiting Dillon relatives.

Miss Frankie Lewis Dies at Home in Dillon

Miss Frankie Lewis 69, longtime Dillon resident, died Monday morning after a long illness. Born in Glasgow Missouri she moved to Montana in 1889 and to Dillon in 1890 where she lived ever since. She was active in the First Baptist Church and survived by a sister Miss Kate Lewis Dillon and a brother in Oklahoma plus several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Charles Ralston Wise River and Mrs. George Burt Los Angeles.
