The Beaverhead County big game season begins Saturday October 15 and runs 30 days. Hunters plan opening trips around Yellowstone park for elk while many stay closer to home. Snow last week improves conditions over last year and deer harvests were lower, suggesting a robust game population this season. Hunters must observe tag requirements.
A man caused fire in the Madison Reserve near Hutchins burned about 28 acres before a 12 man crew contained it. It was the tenth man caused blaze in the Beaverhead forest this year, with only one natural fire. The season’s largest local fire reached 75 acres in the Madison district last month.
Beaverhead county Republicans believe they will deliver a large victory for Frank A. Hazel baker in the governor race. Chairman William S. Tash reports optimism from every precinct and notes Democrats grow discouraged by Roosevelt's stance.
John Thomas Guilfoyle a Dillon rancher born August 12 1871 in Fulton Kansas was found dead this morning on his ranch west of the county fair grounds. He had been stricken while tending irrigation ditches and a search by neighbors followed his absence from home. A resident since 1901 he had owned the river road ranch for a decade and is survived by Kansas relatives including cousin Martin Quigley of Wisdom. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Dillon Elk Lodge No 240 attended a reception in Butte honoring Grand Exalted Ruler Floyd Thompson of Moline Illinois. Attendees included Exalted Ruler Leonard Innes Secretary Earl Wheat Past Exalted Ruler John T Orr Esteemed Loyal Knight Francis Gelhaus and several others. The lodge plans its regular meeting Friday evening.
Carl Hansen and Dellar Gordon of Armstead spent Monday in Dillon for an unspecified visit.
Greater University of Montana executive council settled on a maximum annual budget of 1 050 000 for all units for the coming biennium starting July 1. Chancellor Brannon will present figures to the state board of education on October 22 in Butte before sending them to the legislature.
Geer shoots three times at the Ziegler ranch on the Madison county side of the Big Hole river near Glen. Andy Ziegler lies near death at Barrett hospital after four shots hit him including the abdomen chest and wrist. Ambrose Ziegler unharnessed a team as the shooting occurred. a .38 revolver and a bullet hole were found at the scene.
Montana State College reserves defeated State Normal 32 to 0 on a muddy field. The Bulldogs showed flashes of defense but struggled offensively. Key linemen Callahan Kerr Anderson and Thompson starred on defense, while Leslie Booth suffered a shoulder bruise. Next home game vs School of Mines on October 21.
Dillon Rotary club members will travel to Jackson tomorrow night to join the Big Hole Basin Lions Club for another joint meeting. A banquet will be served and talks will be given by members of both clubs. County Commissioner Martin Jackson, president of the Big Hole club, extended the invitation.
The Beaverhead County Board held its regular meeting October 3 1932 with all members and the clerk present. Minutes were approved. a custody paper for Gladys Moran was signed. A public driveway petition was referred to Commissioner Gosman. October 4 1932 the board designated election judges and polling places for 24 locations and approved quarterly depository securities and several official reports.
Beaverhead County high school agricultural department initiated five new members Bob Harrison Bob Jackson Dick Shepard Wallace Banning and James O Brien at a meeting last week Refreshments followed the initiation George Shaffner and Ed Bay Smith Hughes agricultural students began their lamb feeding project under Supervisor Bernard Williams Shaffner has 16 lambs averaging 62 pounds from George Edinger of Carter Livestock Co Bay has 16 head from Rite of Medicine Lodge Lambs will graze until November 1 then be fed a ration including sugar beets oats and barley
Tom DuBois of Dillon has been named Montana field representative of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation based in Helena. His duties include inspecting rancher loan applications and, upon approval, releasing funds within three days as red tape has been removed.
The nation's annual Red Cross drive runs this week with Beaverhead County active. Dillon conducts a house to house canvass and booths at the post office and local banks. Old members urged to renew promptly to fund reef supplies for needy families this winter through the Dillon Associated Charities.
The two banks and all county offices close for Columbus Day legal holiday in Montana. City schools hold special exercises to mark the anniversary.

H T Kraabel of Lima visited Dillon on Monday for business matters, meeting local officials and discussing potential opportunities.
Montgomery Ward Company opens a Dillon store in a Fort Montana street building near the First National Bank. Manager H E Tiare of Butte leads daily stock installation as 16 carloads of merchandise are allocated to Dillon, Bozeman, and Butte locations with furniture, radios, household goods, and auto supplies featured.
The Beaverhead Federation of Women's Organizations will hold its semi annual convention in Wisdom next Saturday under the Wisdom Women's club. A large number of Dillon women will attend with delegates from many communities. The Shakespeare club is the local unit. Reservations for luncheon must be arranged with Miss Celina Bellivol of Wisdom.
Beaverhead County High School’s Beavers defeated Anaconda 6-0 on the local gridiron. Anaconda threat repeatedly stalled as Beaver line stood firm like a stone wall. Balkovatz’s early reception set the visitors’ lone score, while Dean cleared danger late in the half.
Dillon lodge No. 16 A F and A M hosted M D Rowland grand master of the Montana grand lodge at a special Monday night meeting in the Masonic temple. A dinner was served in the banquet room in his honor and the grand master delivered the evening address before a lodge session.
