Death of Dillon Resident Delos Harroun

Delos Dudley Harroun died in Dillon last Sunday from heart trouble. He had recently moved from Roundup with his daughter Miss Sarah Harroun, a Normal College student. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

Fire Prevention Week Observed by Dillon Residents

Dillon observes Fire Prevention Week with a citywide campaign led by the Volunteer Fire Department. Notices urged property owners to remove rubbish and inflammables by October 15 or have them removed at the owners’ expense. Mayor Roscoe Cornell supports the effort as fires here are few but often caused by carelessness.

Democrats Organize Beaverhead County Campaign Office

Democrats of Beaverhead county held a meeting at R W Boone’s offices to plan an aggressive campaign. Fred Rife was chosen chairman with Chas Truax as vice chair, Robert Barrett treasurer, Clara Adams chairwoman, and Georgia Mathews vice chairwoman as the committee organized. The ticket includes Benjamin Proctor of Lima for state representative and all nominees, except county attorney and coroner, are in place for the November 7 election.

The senior class presents a radio apparatus valued at 212.50 to the school as a practical educational aid and source of wide entertainment. Charley Oberem arranged funding from the senior play. Mr. Wood and Oberem plan to install it promptly. Sessions may include dance music transmitted from major stations once setup is complete.

Polaris Fire Devastates Concentrator at Polaris Plant

The Polaris concentrator burned to the ground about two a m yesterday. Officials estimate damage at at least sixty thousand dollars as the fire, which started in the engine room near the boiler, burned without extinguishment. J B Somers of the Beaverhead National forest ordered a guard for the adjoining forest reserve as coke and coal remain burning. Jack Nemick of Montana Auto Supply was in Sheridan on business.

Four Men Arrested on Gambling Charge

Curtis Adams Henry Hutchens Yohin Davis and Joe Morette were arrested last week on gambling charges. Three were tried and fined 200 dollars each with Adams paying the full amount. the others serve time in county jail while the fourth was dismissed.

Will Open Music Studio On Bannack Street

Mrs Robert Thurman has secured a lease on the building on Bannack street formerly occupied by the George Engineering company and will open a musical studio there on the 16th of the month. She was a music instructor at the high school last year.

Lima Man Arrested in Alleged Illicit Liquor Sale

Adam Panick of Lima was arrested last week on charges of illegal liquor sales. He pled not guilty in justice court and was bound over to the district court on a $200 bond.

The Wisdom Women’s club in the Big Hole basin sponsors a federation of Beaverhead county women’s clubs. A meeting is planned for next Saturday to organize the federation and elect officers with Mrs. Fred Hirschy presiding. A luncheon will follow at the Wisdom community building and many clubs and public officials are invited to speak.
