New Highway Stretch To Open This Week On Butte-Dillon Route

Seven miles of the new state and federal highway on the Butte to Dillon road may open this week pending approval. Contractors O Conner and Patrick say the section between Brown's Station and Melrose eliminates a difficult road portion. Remaining work from Brown's Station to Lavon and the Big Hole River bridge at Lavon continues.

Captain W A Kenyon reports Dillon airport will gain beacon lights along the Great Falls Salt Lake air route with Type A beacons at Dillon and beacons on hills from Monida to Twin Bridges. A large Beaverhead county fair parade in Dillon featured nearly thirty floats from local businesses schools and organizations plus juvenile entries and other features. Beaverhead County Fair Concludes After Record Exhibits

Beaverhead county closes its greatest fair after three days drawing over 4000 visitors. The livestock pavilion filled with sheep and cattle, plus outside pens, and the main hall crowded with products and booths from the forest service post office Red Cross and Parent Teachers Association. The racing program drew strong crowds despite early bad weather and closing ceremonies ended a successful exposition.

Beaverhead County Fair Exceeds Expectations in Livestock Sales

Livestock sales each morning at the Beaverhead county fair were entirely successful with strong demand and high prices. Auctions led by Luther Smith saw prize cattle fetch premium figures. The Hansen Packing Company of Butte bought the champion Hereford from George Clemon for 16 1 2 cents, and also purchased the Melton junior steer for 16 1 2 cents. The company paid 15 1 2 cents for the baby beef winning Wilbur Tash. Cash Meat Market of Dillon paid 15 1 4 cents for a Short horn steer and 14 cents for a Shorthorn shown by George Hansen.

Beavers and Bulldogs Fall in Saturday Games

Both high school and normal college teams suffered defeats on Saturday. Beavers lost 26 to 0 to Butte at the local field, while the Bulldogs were routed 58 to 0 by the southern branch of the University of Idaho in Pocatello. The Beavers showed late life with a fourth quarter drive and a 40 yard pass, but failed to score. Dillon’s Little shone at quarterback, aided by Butner Danse and Blair. Butte’s Nevin, Sullivan, Dyer, and Hawke starred for the visitors.
