The county fair will feature Monida and Joulands exhibits, touted as the most extensive array shown in Beaverhead. A rally and voter address by prominent speakers are planned in the latter part of the month addressing current campaign issues.
Seven miles of the new state and federal highway on the Butte to Dillon road may open this week pending approval. Contractors O Conner and Patrick say the section between Brown's Station and Melrose eliminates a difficult road portion. Remaining work from Brown's Station to Lavon and the Big Hole River bridge at Lavon continues.
Beav erhead Republicans launch a county wide campaign with Mark D. Fitzgarrald addressing voters in Wisdom and Lima tonight. Key speakers Rankin Wheeler and Walsh slated for Dillon later this month as rallies run through Monida Armstead Mill Point Jackson Wisdom Wise River Reichle with dates from Friday to Saturday October 16 20.
Nina Lawrence of Bowen is seriously injured when a car overturns. Frank Mack Edwards, Madison County poor farm superintendent at Alder, dies from exposure after being pinned beneath his car for two hours in Beaverhead River. He and companion Jack Schofield left Dillon after Beaverhead county fair.
Captain W A Kenyon reports Dillon airport will gain beacon lights along the Great Falls Salt Lake air route with Type A beacons at Dillon and beacons on hills from Monida to Twin Bridges. Government plans include a radio station and weather report unit at Dillon if the field is prepared for landing.
Beaverhead County Board of Commissioners met October 1 1928 in regular session with A L Anderson O C Gosman J E Shaw and Acting Clerk Albert B Baker present. Minutes approved September reports reviewed road and bridge inspections authorized county property oversight and travel for inspectors in the coming month. Districts listed with Anderson Beaverhead Gosman Red Rock Slaw Big Hole and a $90 claim from Madison County for auto licenses noted.
Guido Schaffer a well known Dillon rancher will sell farm equipment and livestock at an auction at his ranch six miles east of Dillon on Thursday October 25.
A large Beaverhead county fair parade in Dillon featured nearly thirty floats from local businesses schools and organizations plus juvenile entries and other features. Spectators lined the route applauding every entry while parade organizers A T Peterson Francis Tonney and W B Hartwig earned praise for their efforts and coordination.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Duff longtime residents of the Centennial valley arrived last week to visit with friends and to attend the county fair and events in the area.
Ssimoned ESLEY WYNES, a well known Dillon young man, died at his mother's home Mrs. F R Wynes last Thursday night after a short illness caused by heart trouble.
Beaverhead county closes its greatest fair after three days drawing over 4000 visitors. The livestock pavilion filled with sheep and cattle, plus outside pens, and the main hall crowded with products and booths from the forest service post office Red Cross and Parent Teachers Association. The racing program drew strong crowds despite early bad weather and closing ceremonies ended a successful exposition.
Livestock sales each morning at the Beaverhead county fair were entirely successful with strong demand and high prices. Auctions led by Luther Smith saw prize cattle fetch premium figures. The Hansen Packing Company of Butte bought the champion Hereford from George Clemon for 16 1 2 cents, and also purchased the Melton junior steer for 16 1 2 cents. The company paid 15 1 2 cents for the baby beef winning Wilbur Tash. Cash Meat Market of Dillon paid 15 1 4 cents for a Short horn steer and 14 cents for a Shorthorn shown by George Hansen.
Fred Woodside of Dillon launches a new scholarship tying grades to a free airplane ride. The Beaverhead County High School senior with the highest semester marks earns the flight, with Woodside noting higher grades mean a higher flight. The Dillon aviation pioneer chairs 1 Tana Auto Supply and plans to use this incentive to motivate students.
Beaverhead County faces a tighter feeder cattle supply this winter with fewer head than in recent years. Buyers report strong demand for feeder steers despite the reduced numbers, signaling a brisk market for ranchers.
The Dillon city council approved a modern six cylinder American LaFrance truck with chemical and hose capabilities, to be delivered by year end. Mayor Roscoe Cornell signed the purchase order after council support. Part of the price will be paid by the department, which praised for public spirit and efficiency.
Both high school and normal college teams suffered defeats on Saturday. Beavers lost 26 to 0 to Butte at the local field, while the Bulldogs were routed 58 to 0 by the southern branch of the University of Idaho in Pocatello. The Beavers showed late life with a fourth quarter drive and a 40 yard pass, but failed to score. Dillon’s Little shone at quarterback, aided by Butner Danse and Blair. Butte’s Nevin, Sullivan, Dyer, and Hawke starred for the visitors.
