County Board Discusses Grader Use and Lane Gates

The board of county commissioners met for its regular October session. Fred Woodsides received permission to use the county grader to level a landing field for airplanes, and the board inspected Poindexter lane gates after Tom Flynn and Ansel Brown's request. Receipts from State Bank and Trust were moved from Clark bank in Dillon to First National bank of Butte. The day focused on county fair business with Chairman J E Shaw and commissioners A L Anprson and C C Gosman present, with Clerk Albert S Baker attending.

Family Mourns in Dillon After West Yellowstone Death

Lorin Davis travels to West Yellowstone upon his mother’s death. Douglas Bourquin meets Mrs. Davis and children and brings them to Dillon. Both sons return east with their mother’s remains.

Health program at Beaverhead County Fair all week

The Beaverhead County Fair opened today with a health program planned for tomorrow and Friday at 1 30 PM. Arranged by the Federation of Women’s Clubs, the talks cover child health, with literature distributed and scales for weighing children. Mrs Lambertson, the county health nurse, will be available for questions, followed by a fish pond for children.

Hay sell price records set in Beaverhead deal

Lewis Penwell of the Beaverhead Livestock Company sold 750 tons of hay to Woods Livestock Company at 8.50 per ton, totaling six thousand three hundred seventy five dollars. The quality hay will feed sheep through winter and higher prices are expected to trigger similar sales.

Rotarians Propose Fair Parking Plan At Dillon Meeting

Rotarians and Dillon residents considered parking off main business streets during the county fair. The suggestion was accepted at the weekly Rotary club meeting held yesterday.

Honor Roll for Summer Normal Team

One hundred fifty one students earn summer quarter honor roll at Montana State Normal College led by Sister Mary Afra White of Helena who earned 3 points per credit. Sylvia Warren of Lewistown ranks second with high marks. Mable V O Leary of Butte and Sister M Catherine Foersch of Kansas City tie for third.

Beaverhead High Falls 20 7 to Anaconda in opener

Beaverhead county high school opened the season with a 20 to 7 loss to Anaconda. Anaconda key plays came from Davidson and Gallagher with a 45 yard dash by Captain Frank Little for Dillon’s score. Beavers showed a passing game but were edged by Anaconda aerial attack and a blocked extra point attempt. Coach Gunderson drills extra work for the Butte game next Saturday.

Beaverhead stockmen eye $1.75 million in feeder stock sales

Beaverhead county buyers and commission men estimate about 300 carloads of feeder steers totaling 7,500 head will bring growers roughly $182 per head as shipments run heavy this fall. James Dodd of Dillon leads as he ships from Divide and Armstead and feeders head toward Los Angeles. Feeder cattle expected to net about $990,000 this season while about 100,000 head of feeder lambs are shipped with prices around 11 to 11.5 cents per pound.

Stephan’s Team Secures Dinner Match Tourney Victory

A team captained by Dr W H Stephan defeated a team led by W B Hartwig in a dinner match at the Dillon Country Club course last Sunday afternoon. The winners were guests of the losers at a dinner that evening at the Country Inn. Members of the winning team participated.

Matron Dies Thursday in California

RS. R. Johnston, longtime Dillon resident, died Thursday at her San Jose home after a brief illness. Her body was brought to Dillon for burial and a funeral was held yesterday at her daughter Mrs. W. T. Scully’s home with Rev. Howard B. Rick etts of Grace Methodist church officiating.

Beaverhead County Fair Opens With Largest Parade

Beaverhead county's greatest fair opens this afternoon after a community parade the largest ever in Dillon. Exhibits highlight leading industries with new livestock pavilion and displays of cattle hogs sheep horses poultry and farm produce. Daily livestock sales begin at 10 am with cattle today and sheep and hogs on subsequent days.

World Series Opinion Poll From Dillon Fans

Dillon fans offer varied views on the World Series with many favoring the Yankees while others back St Louis. The town will host a daily 11 30 p m play by play from Hartwig theater with a 50 cent admission and an electric score board.
