City Council Hears Reports and Orders Sidewalks Built
The Dillon city council met at city hall with Acting Mayor Eliel and aldermen Graeter Anderson Cornell and Bond. Six More Enlistments in Engineers Corps
Six additional Beaverhead county youths joined the forestry battalion engineer corps this week and will depart for Missoula. They are Carl Magnus Wallin, Ranie Lucero, Frank Gerard, P M Park, Jas P Gallagher, and Walter Kort. The county's forestry battalion quota now stands at sixty, swelling Beaverhead's roll of honor. If enlistments continue, Beaverhead could avoid a draft in a second round by crediting these enlistments.

Man Finds He Has Played Poor Joke
George Keesee was arrested on a charge of taking the bridles off the transfer team of John Scott. The team spooked, dash through Bannack and Montana streets, injuring the driver who was thrown from the wagon. Keesee said he had been drinking and did not remember the act.

Oil Firm Advances in Smallhorn District Drilling
The Montana Oil & Refining company, newly formed to operate in Smallhorn canyon, has secured a driller and plans to begin drilling within three weeks. The property lies about three miles south of the Beaverhead Alberta area. Driller F. W. Fish of Bakersfield, California reports favorable surface conditions after working in the field since July 1.

Bag Three Fine Elk On Hunting Trip
Harry Andrus and partners Lewis Degregnas and Jesse Warren returned from a week in West Gallatin canyon with three elk. Each hunter killed one elk, enabling friends to share the first elk steak of the season. Henry Gleed Sr. and E. J. Ripley also returned with a two point buck from upper Horse Prairie country.

Death Claims Henry Estelle After Illness
Henry William Estelle, a 25 year rancher in the Sweetwater area, died last Thursday at his home after a pneumonia illness. His funeral was in Dillon, conducted by Rev. Jensen of St. James Episcopal Church, with burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Born in Canada 65 years ago, he leaves several children and his wife.

Slackers Arrested In County Jail Bookings
Willard Selgrist Charles Smith and R D Peck were booked at the county jail last Friday for failing to show a registration card. Selgrist claimed 22 to a bartender then said he was under 21 to an officer. Smith said he was under draft age but once had a Bozeman marriage license and later turned 21.

Car Fire Threatens Franklin Roadster of Dr Thorkelson

Sheep killed by freight train near stockyards
A freight train struck and killed 110 sheep owned by the Montana Livestock Commission, valued at 12 dollars each, after the animals escaped a fence and wandered onto the tracks. A draft horse valued at 250 dollars was also killed by a passenger train, with another horse injured. the team belonged to Beaverhead Lumber and escaped onto the track near the elevator on Idaho street.
