A large crowd watched the dedication of the new War Memorial Park turf field in Dillon before the Beavers beat Anaconda 25 to 6 in the season opener. A parade and flag raising preceded the game, with Rev. J. Thompson Baker delivering the dedication address praising patriotism and community values. Coppin led Dillon's scoring with three touchdowns and Banks added a third quarter score, as Anaconda managed a single score on a 30 yard pass. The Beavers next host Anaconda Central Friday under the lights.

Puyear Home Damaged by Fire on West Side
Firemen were called Sunday around 11 30 to the Paul Puyear home to extinguish a small blaze in the outer wall of the living room. The fire, likely started by an overheated stove, caused little damage aside from a scorched wall panel and was controlled with chemicals. Crowd gathered due to persistent fire siren blasts.

Two Injured When Truck Leaves Road Near Dillon
A light truck left the highway while driving into Dillon from the Big Hole basin early Monday morning. Maurice Denney and Emil Harris, ranch workers, suffered facial and head cuts and other injuries when the vehicle turned over near the stone house on Rattlesnake crossing. John Stocker assisted, Harris was released the same day, Denney remained hospitalized after treatment by Dr. George L. Routledge at Barrett hospital. the wreck was towed to town for repairs.

Mrs Lula Baird 69 died last Thursday night at Barrett Hospital after a brief illness. A Beaverhead resident 18 years, she taught at Nicholia and Monida during wartime. Born Dec 30 1877 in La Clede county Missouri, she is survived by two sons Leonard and Lyle Essex, two grandchildren Bobbie Essex and Betty Jean Baird, siblings Freeman Davison W L Davison Sheridan Davison Frank Davison Teagarden, and others. At the Thursday meeting the council updated on street oiling delays due to bad weather on Pacific street and said work will resume. Montana Power plans 58 new street lights to be installed this fall with posts dug soon. Morrison engineers survey Dillon sewer and water system plans are complete. more data for the sewage disposal plant will be gathered. A delegation requested city aid for a recreation center supervisor but funds for the center were declined. Davis Motor Co. bid $1670.62 for a 1 1/2 ton Ford truck and a retirement plan requires an employee vote. Leo Williams was named a new police officer by Chief Dan Mooney.

Pleads Not Guilty On Felony Charge

Victim of Amnesia Returns Home to Ladysmith
Dell Newton of Ladysmith Wisconsin traveled from August 15 driving a 1946 Dodge truck and cannot recall the trip or where the vehicle was left. He was picked up in Dillon on a drunkenness charge and treated for a fractured leg two days earlier. Local police notified the FBI to reach his family. His brother notes a wife and two children.

Rites Held For George A Pyle In Dillon Funeral
Funeral services for George A. Pyle a longtime Grasshopper Valley stockman were held last Thursday at Brundage chapel with Rev. Lewis D. Smith officiating from St James Episcopal. He died recently in California and burial was in Mountain View Cemetery as many Grasshopper residents traveled to Dillon for the rites.

A two day Montana Hereford event in Dillon features an evening smoker at the city hall auditorium starting 8:15 P.M. under Dillon Lodge No. 1554 BPOE sponsorship. A Monday night dinner at Normal College dining room marked the Dillon Rotary club’s 25th founding anniversary with about 120 Rotarians and guests. Delegations from other Montana clubs attended. Albert Erickson led the event as president and Rush Jordan read messages from allied clubs and Dist. Gov. Robert Slye. Fay Cannon was lauded as the 1922 organizer. The program featured a club history roll call and candles on the festal cake as eighteen former presidents participated.

Beaverhead 4-H Steers Earn Honors At Butte Show
Beaverhead county 4-H youths won six blue ribbons and many red and white distinctions at the Butte livestock show. Nancy Hubbard of Harrison topped baby beef at 50 cents a pound for a 1 146 pound calf, selling for 578 dollars. Beav erhead bidders and donors supported the two day event with dozens of entries and a calf scramble awarding calves to three winners.
