Carlson Refutes Dixon Record in Montana State Speech

C. E. Carlson democratic attorney general candidate scrutinizes Governor Dixon’s Dillon speech, citing state records to claim the present administration increased debt by 3.6 million dollars, raised taxes by about 1.9 million annually, and spent heavily on travel and cars. He argues the Republican record worsened finances compared to the Stewart era.

Death of E. E. Murray Found in Blacktail Creek

E. E. Murray a longtime Dilton resident was found dead Sunday afternoon in Blacktail Creek. He last appeared alive September 26 after being rescued from a freshly dug water main on Kentucky Avenue. Murray had worked for Dillon-Limpment Co and later opened a harness shop after moving to Dillon five or six years ago.

Democratic Ladies Invited to County Meeting at Andrus Hotel

The Democratic Central Committee invites all Democratic ladies in the county to a meeting at the Andrus hotel next Tuesday evening at 3:30. A Democratic Woman's club will be organized and committees formed to arrange a reception for Montana's next governor Judge Erickson. Refreshments will be served.

Federation of Women’s Clubs Meets at Jackson County

The Beaverhead county Federation of Women’s Clubs holds its fall semi annual session in Jackson on Saturday Oct 11 at the Community building. Members from across the county attend with opening exercises at 10 o clock including invocation by Mrs Fred Nelson welcome by Mrs Flora Hirschy president’s address by Mrs Nellie McFadden and reports from Helena and Los Angeles. A luncheon follows and the afternoon includes readings and explanations of constitutional amendments by Linden McCullough Dillon and Tom Davis Butte with a final evening program of addresses and a closing dance.

Beavers and Whitehall Set for Close High School Clash

A tight football battle looms as Whitehall plays Beaverhead at the fair grounds on Saturday to open the local season. The Beavers then face Anaconda on Oct 18 and other teams in a packed schedule including Sheridan and the Normal college on Armistice Day. The Beaverhead eleven and Whitehall are thought evenly matched, promising a close contest.

Judge Erickson to Speak in Dillon October 24

Judge Erickson will visit Dillon on October 24 to deliver an address on state political issues. Beaverhead County residents will hear Montana's next governor for the first time, with this his only speaking date in the county. He will travel from Twin Bridges on the afternoon of October 24.

Dillon Golf Club Plans Course Improvements and Work

Members of the Dillon Golf Club met Friday evening at Dr. H. F. Best’s office to discuss repairing and improving the local course. They decided to hire a man for part of the work and to have members contribute spare time to the project. On Sunday many golf fans turned out to help at the links.

Dillon Woman Called to Nebraska by Death of Son

Mrs. John Hoffman traveled to McCook Nebraska to attend the funeral of her son George who died in Pittsburgh after a gun cleaning accident. He was 20, born in Jacksonville Illinois, lived many years in Dillon and married to Sidona Renzelman in Wray Colorado. He had just graduated from Westinghouse Electrical School and was promptly placed in a job.

Forger Returned to Blackfoot After Serving Sentence

Elwood Peterson was turned over to an Idaho sheriff to return to Blackfoot and face forgery charges after completing a 60 day jail term here for breaking into a ranch bunk house near Dillon. Investigations revealed a bad check in Lima and additional checks at Aberdent Idaho. Blackfoot authorities were notified. Mike Rebich was arraigned on larceny charges for taking a wagon from the C B Q ranch. He pleaded not guilty claiming lawful loan and ownership. Bonds set at $100. Trial slated for Friday.

Finest political meeting in Beaverhead county

The Beaverhead county gathering drew hundreds of voters from all parties to hear Senator Thomas J. Walsh seek re election to the U S Senate. Democrats C E Carlson Sam Mitchell Horace McIntyre and others joined Walsh for a rally with music and a standing room only crowd at the city hall.

Dillon Citizens Take Part in Annual Normal College Go

The annual Normal college go was held last Friday at Dillmont park. Local businessmen supplied cars to shuttle students to the picnic and the afternoon outing ended with a dance at the park. An outdoor luncheon was served by the college and well enjoyed by students and townspeople amid cool but fair weather.
