John Baker lists 3672 eligible voters in Beaverhead county, up 4 461 from last August’s primary. Dillon precincts total 1825 registered, with gains across all 24 precincts except Nicholia which fell by three. Dillon South Central adds 74, Dillon South 67, and Dillon West 48 new names.

State fair rural school exhibit wins prizes
At the state fair last week county rural schools showcased handwork with wide representation from Nelson Argenta Grant Apex Lima Wisdom West Fox Armstead Blacktail Drummey Lakeview. West Fox earned third in best knot and rope work. Mildred Schuler of Nelson won first in best embroidered buffet set and third in best dresser scarf in the rural art exhibit.

John Harlen Reed of Dillon died in Butte Saturday evening after a two year illness. He was born in Blairstown Missouri 44 years ago and moved to Dillon 14 years ago. Survived by wife Nora and children Opal Carrie Farnum D Reed Roscoe Reed of Dillon. Leighton Reed and Oleta Reed in Blairstown Missouri. A sister Mrs George Lime in Kansas and brothers Duncan Leighton Reed in Missouri. Body at Sherman Reed chapel. funeral arrangements pending.

Death-ray eyed man held at city jail after disturbance
Sheriff Mooney and Undersheriff Kellam detained a man who claims a death-ray power and alias McDermott. He stood near a pox-car shielding his eyes and pleading with guards as officers learned of his attempt to enter Roberts Harnese’s shop during the late hours. The man says foreign agents pursue him though he calls himself a patriot ready to blast enemy battleships if war comes.

A Lima Japanese restaurant was held up by two masked men about midnight Saturday. The robbers escaped on foot with about one hundred dollars and have not been apprehended. Two suspects fled after the incident.

Beaverhead sheep shipments flood western markets
Beaverhead county sheepmen expect near one million dollars from mutton lambs shipped this fall. Most will go to Nebraska Colorado and Snake River country for feeding before eastern markets. An estimated 120 000 to 150 000 lambs will be shipped with about 75 percent already sent at prices around 10.5 cents per pound and 6.50 to 7.50 dollars per head.

World Series Returns at Hartwig Theater

Washington reports prompt action by federal and Texas officials to eradicate a foot and mouth outbreak on a Harris County ranch near Houston. A quarantine covers Harris and Galveston counties and parts of Brazoria and Fort Bend.
