Fred Honeychurch Beaverhead county high school band leader addressed the Dillon Rotary Club at Wilbur cafe describing this year’s music plans. He noted new uniforms ordered and announced several concerts and a Sunday hour with dates to be named. Phillip Bond guest spoke on world peace and WWI impacts, urging active concern for current war implications.

Navy Cruiser To Visit in Dillon Friday

A U S Navy recruiting cruiser will visit Dillon next Friday as part of Navy Recruiting Month. The four man crew will show motion pictures, perform physical examinations, and offer transportation to Helena for enlistment after viewing the station on wheels. The mobile recruiting unit travels from Butte to Dillon then to Anaconda.

Fire destroys Stefonick ranch home Sunday

Dillon volunteers responded to a Sunday blaze at the Peter Stefonick ranch south of Dillon. Firefighters could not secure enough water to operate the pumper and only prevented spread. Mrs. Stefanick was away. ranch hands were in the fields. The cause was believed to be spontaneous combustion.

Air Force recruiter visits city to seek enlistments

Major William S. Bryan from the Army Air Force District Headquarters in Butte visited Dillon last Saturday to recruit for air corps enlistments. He cited urgent needs for skilled mechanics, radio men, armorers, and related specialists to keep war equipment in working order as air crews expand. He explained airmen, bombardiers, and navigators rise, but a fourth member keeps them flying. Enlistees would enter as privates for basic training under orders from the Commanding General.

Fires Reported in Beaverhead County Four Months

Thirty fires were reported at the Beaverhead county sheriff's office during June to September. Seventeen started by lightning, twelve by man. Three hundred ten acres burned across 92 call outs for firefighters.

Plans for the fifth annual Dillon Hereford show and sale were announced by manager Bernard R. Williams. The event features eighty three bulls and herd sires in futurity and open classes to be judged and sold at the county fairgrounds new sales pavilion.

Standard Lumber Keglers posted the week's high team total in the city league with 2712 pins and also claimed the top single-game mark at 938 pins. Floyd Vandegrift bowled the highest individual game with 224 and Paul Stahl led the week with a 574 three game total. Mrs Mabel Tritt Dies After Three Month Illness

Mrs. Mabel Tritt, born November 22, 1864 in Port Blakesley Michigan, died Friday night after a three month illness at Barrett hospital. Last rites were held at Brundage chapel with Rev. Belle Long officiating. Interment in Mountain View cemetery. She resided in Beaverhead county for 49 years and is survived by sister Mrs. Delia Nyhart of Seattle plus several nieces and brothers-in-law Tom Dillon and Rube Nampa and sister-in-law Mrs. Effie Coon of Dillon.

Beaverhead County Aims 135700 Pounds Scrap Monthly

Beaverhead county plans to collect 135700 pounds of scrap each month. WPA trucks began last Monday in Monida and Centennial districts under salvage chairman George M. Gosman. Additional pickups are in Lima on Oct 8 9 10 and Dell on 11 12 13. farmers urged to bring scrap to central sites for easy loading.

Freshmen Lead War Stamp Drive at Local High School

Beaverhead chapter of the National Honor Society sponsors a war stamp sale contest at the local high school. Freshmen lead with $34.35 in stamps sold since the school year began, followed by sophomores $22.00 juniors $19.50 and seniors $10.50. Total stamps sold amount to $86.35.
