Dillon fans favor the Chicago Cubs as the World Series opens, but their bets lean to the powerful New York Yankees. Most say they hope the Cubs win, yet money is on the Yankees, amid cautious optimism and high hopes for a Cubs upset.
Mrs Marguerite Birch Clair is appointed art instructor to fill the vacancy created by Miss Kathryn Kelletts resignation. She holds a B S from Minnesota and an M A from Iowa with extensive training in art education and related fields. She belongs to Delta Phi Delta and has participated in Minnesota state fair art exhibits and the Southwestern Artists Show.
Drilling for a water well at Mountain View cemetery will press on with support from R J Baril and Son of Sheridan and local contributions. The Dillon Business and Professional Women's club seeks $2,400 to fund the local share, ensuring no delays in later project phases once the well is completed.
Clarence Peterson 21 of Dell died in a Butte hospital after two months of complications from an injury he suffered Aug 4 while butchering sheep at the Peterson ranch near Dell. Born Sept 19 1917 in Dillon he was a Lima high school graduate. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs C W Peterson.
Dillon Country club women plan two major events this month. The handicap tourney is set for next Sunday at 1 30 pm with posting due by Friday at the clubhouse. Winners will dine with losers the following week, organized by Miss Helen Dahlberg and Miss Kathleen Henkel. The annual championship tourney also requires qualifying scores by Oct 15 with preliminary matches the next week.
County Democratic central committee leaders unveiled campaign groups led by Bruce A. Risley. The article lists executive, advisory, finance, publicity and resolutions chairs with numerous members guiding Beaverhead politics.
The Dillon Business and Professional Women’s club and the Amateur Theatre guild announce a two night home talent show titled The Circus to be performed Friday and Saturday November 4 and 5. Beaverhead County voters authorized a 165000 bond to match a 135000 federal PWA grant for a new county high school building. The 836 to 125 tally was nearly seven to one with three precincts voting no and three voting yes without dissent. Construction to begin within 12 weeks with classes moved to the Normal College during build.
A large crowd filled Dillon High School as the P T A gathered for its first social of the year. Principal Conrad Orr outlined the school’s condition and the urgent need for a new building. New faculty were introduced by Dr S E Davis with Supt Paul Anderson speaking. Two former state officers explained P T A objectives. Mrs J H Gilbert and Mrs A F Waldorf shared past roles. Mrs Frank Tyre presided as program chairman. The fresh man orchestra and a vocal duet performed before a 50day hour hosted by Lillian Stone.
Henry Fitter of Lima spent Monday visiting the city, stopping at local sites and meeting residents during a brief stay.
The Beaver first regular issue published yesterday with Fay Kirkpatrick as sponsor and June Patrick as editor. Montana State Normal College opened fall term with enrollment about the same as last year and updated registration plans for upperclassmen and freshmen. Ray Gallant appointed coach and director of physical education as classes begin and the first assembly occurs.
Beaverhead chapter of the Future Farmers of America picked two sacks of Netted Gem potatoes from the Irvine and Cottom farm last week. The potatoes will ship to Kansas City for the national Future Farmers convention banquet on October 17.
Mrs Willard Olson of Melrose was a Dillon visitor Friday.
State liquor stores implement new weekday hours effective October 10 announced by E L Poindexter Dillon store manager. Stores in Dillon Wisdom and Lima adjust to 11 a m to 7 p m replacing previous 12 noon to 8 p m schedule.
Beaverhead County High School's Beaver eleven faces St. Peters of Anaconda this Friday after a 7-0 loss to Whitehall. Whitehall used speed against Beaverhead's veteran squad in a hard fought game marked by fumbles and a late turnover. An anticipated tough matchup follows amid district championship memories.
Congressman Jerry J. OConnell will address crowds in Dillon on Saturday night October 22. His campaign says he opened with a Whitefish speech Monday and plans statewide stops in all 17 counties of his district before the November 8 election.

Meetings include Dillon Better Homes club at Elmer Devaney's home this afternoon and dates from Oct 12 to Oct 27 in Birch Creek Riverside Dillon Wisdom Wise River Dell Armstead.
Beaverhead county high schools elected class officers at organization meetings last week. Seniors chose William Tower as president with Winifred Christensen as vice president, June Patrick secretary, Eleanore Thompson treasurer, and Lloyd Whipple treasurer. Joe Taylor led the junior class with Barbara Holloran as vice president, Margaret Markovich secretary, Catherine Jackson treasurer, and John Burgess yell leader. Sophomores named Don Smith president, Dorothy Anne Gosman vice president, Betty Lee Harrison secretary, Alice Davis treasurer, and Clyde Casterline yell leader. newcomers will name their staff this week.
The Beaverhead post of the American Legion begins its annual drive aiming for full enrollment by Armistice Day. Officials urge veterans to sign up now while Ted Harper post of Wisdom already reports 100 percent membership. George M. Gosman, first vice president of the Montana department, coordinates statewide efforts with Dr. F. M. Poindexter C. A. Bechler and W. B. Hartwig after returning from Los Angeles from the national convention.
