Beaverhead unit of the Future Farmers of America hosted its annual father and son banquet at the high school with about 75 attendees. A W Johnson state supervisor of agricultural education spoke as did Dan Mizner state FFA president. William Anderson Deer Lodge vocational instructor addressed A Neighbor is Howdy. The event followed an opening by FFA officers and a prayer by the Rev.

The biennial Montana state board report shows Beaverhead County leading in cattle and sheep counts for 1938 with 50,367 cattle valued at 1,361,985 and 156,110 sheep valued at 724,197. Big Horn and Blaine counties follow in head counts. Gallatin tops value for horses and mules. The county also hosted the first Southwestern Montana High School Press Association conference in Dillon with 83 delegates.

Dillon Elks to Attend Butte Event and Charity Ball
Dillon Elks lodge and drum corps will join a surprise party and dance at the Butte Elks temple next Saturday night. They will parade with Butte and Anaconda lodge drum corps and accompany Elks. Beaverhead mining man Stanley Starr dies after illness
Stanley M. Starr a Beaverhead county mining man died at Barrett hospital after nearly a year of illness. Born January 14 1867 in Mansfield Ohio he moved to Montana in 1891 and Dillon in 1910. Survived by son Stanley G Starr. sisters Mrs Dora A Hoerning and Mrs Ella Oswalt. brothers W R Starr and E E Starr. Funeral held at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Ranch Man Dies Suddenly at Gleed Ranch Near Dell
Harry Whiting 41 died Monday morning at the William Gleed ranch near Dell while feeding sheep. A cousin of Mr. Gleed, he had lived much of his life in Beaverhead county and was native to Missoula where his mother, a brother and a sister reside. The body was taken to Missoula for interment.

Local rancher John Perry Watters dies at East Bench home
John Perry Watters 78 well known rancher died at his ranch home four miles east of Dillon last Wednesday from pneumonia after a short illness. Born in 1860 in Texas he came to Montana about 50 years ago living in Red Lodge briefly before settling in Beaverhead County. Survived by son William Watters. Funeral held Saturday at Brundage chapel with interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Elks Memorial Service Honors Departed Brothers
The Dillon lodge held a memorial service Sunday night in the training school auditorium. The program featured a memorial address by Theo F. McFadden, ritual by Elmo Winn and officers, musical numbers by Ralph McFadden, the Els quartet, Mrs. Vera Cooke Hazel, and an orchestra directed by Arnold.

Reports on Beaverhead home clubs show active year
Beaverhead county home demonstration clubs filed a busy annual report led by Miss Lillian Stone who recently resigned to take a similar post. In 1937 1938 eight local clubs plus three affiliated clubs pursued home furnishings winter cook book refinishing furniture beds and bedding and handicraft with 124 members in winter cook book reporting 153 improved practices. Handicraft saw 810 articles completed by nine clubs and 152 members with 329 improved practices.
