Pioneer Thomas H. Hamilton Dies on Horse Prairie

Death comes to Beaverhead County’s early settler Thomas H. Hamilton born in Canada in 1828 who arrived in Bannack in 1866 and later built a large cattle ranch on Horse Prairie. He traveled widely engaged in mining and pack work and survived Nez Perce conflicts and frontier dangers before dying at home after heart trouble. He leaves wife Mary J. Lee a daughter and a grandson in Long Beach California. Funeral Monday at the Dillon Methodist church with interment at Mountain View.

Sermon and Praise Service at Baptist Church Next Sunday

Rev. Dr. Horace W. Tilden will preach on The Que Reason for Thankfulness in the forenoon. In the evening a praise service follows with an address on Sacred Song by the pastor. The program lists hymns solos and an organ and violin selections led by Prof. Robbins and Mrs. Luce. Chas. Micas and Tom Clemmons visited Bannack Sunday and returned Monday to resume their trial jurors.

Franklin Gets Five Years For Prand Larceny

Dennis Franklin, a Dillon young man, was convicted of grand larceny after a case of robbery from a Mexican in the city. He allegedly enticed the man to the lower town, struck him with a picket, and stole ten dollars. The jury sentenced him to five years at hard labor in the state penitentiary, with the judge to fix the term. Shakespeare Club Debates Incorporation At Fortnightly Meet

The Shakespeare club held a court house meeting proposing Mia, H. T. Poindexter and Miss Mayme French for membership. Members vote unanimously to incorporate and instruct the ways and means committee to act. Act III of Antony and Cleopatra sparked discussion and readings by Mesdames Kingsbury Luce and Miss Mott.

Court in Session as Emery Robinson Is Found Not Guilty

In the third week of district court juries hear a lengthy docket. Emery Robinson is acquitted of burglary tied to the July 6 Fournier store theft in Jackson after witnesses place him near the scene and the clerk’s supper.
