Record Breaking Grain Crop in Beaverhead Valley

Beaverhead valley just harvested a record grain crop with over 30 million pounds of oats. Leading growers J. E. Morse, Innea Hros, and George R. Featherly won gold medals at the St Louis world’s fair and Portland exhibit for top oats quality.

Sheep growers praise an ideal year with record wool prices

The county sheep industry enjoyed perfect conditions from lambing to range grazing. Prices for wool climbed to 23 24 cents per pound, averaging about 20. The county sold 1 429 311 pounds of wool for 281 171 21 dollars in revenue. A single future contract for next year was noted, with prices around 21 1/6 cents.

New Church Planned for Dillon by Danish Community

Rev. H Q O Svare of Anaconda visited Dillon to organize a Danish Lutheran church. Three lots in the Poin Dexter and Orr addition at Pacific and Clark streets were purchased for the church. Builders expect to spend about $2000 on the structure with calls for estimates.

Houk Murder Trial Underway In Jackson Saloon Case

The district court opened the Houk murder trial in Jackson over the October 13 killing of Owen Ellis at Lloyd and Dunbar saloon. Twelve witnesses are expected. the jury was seated by 11, with state attorneys Melton and Barbour arguing, Norris and Robison for Houk. The shooting followed a scuffle between Houk, Ellis, and Ted Ellis. Ellis died near the bar after Houk claimed self defense and retrieved a rifle. Ted Ellis testifies later, potentially differing from Dunbar’s account.

Missing Men Inquiries Reach Local Police

Chief of Police Bert Williams receives multiple missing persons inquiries from the area. A telegram from Helena reports Frank Shannon of Moscow Idaho not expected to live, while a Little Rock Arkansas caller seeks John or Jack Wilson listed as Dillon Montana ranch owner. No location found for either party as investigations continue.

Dell Mercantile Change Hands In County Deal

The Dell Mercantile company owned by Garr Bros. was sold to Henry Gleed and G J Thompson of Lima. Gleed plans to place his son in charge. Thompson recently sold his Lima interests to Robert Schendel. Mitchell Martinell brokered the sale.

Weddings of Henry Avare and Anna Hermemeyer in Sheridan

Deputy game warden Henry Avare of Butte married Anna H Hermemeyer in Sheridan on a quiet Wednesday ceremony at nine. The bride, once of Dilton and a State Normal College attendee, is a Sheridan favorite. The couple plan to reside in Butte.
