Beaverhead County Commissioners Meet in Regular Session

The Beaverhead Board of County Commissioners met in Dillon Montana on November 8 1928 with Commissioners Anderson Gosman Shaw and Acting Clerk Baker present. They approved minutes and October work, authorized inspections and supervision of road bridge and county buildings, and planned next month’s duties. County officials discussed tax matters and the transfer of the Big Hole Irrigation District funds to the General Fund.

Dillon to Become Regular Stop on Great Falls Salt Lake Air Line

A Dillon based weather report and Dillon field plans signal a likely inclusion of Dillon as a regular stop on the Great Falls Salt Lake air mail route within months. Montana Airways president Fred Woodside notes newly completed landing field specifications submitted to the government for approval. If approved beacons will be installed along the route with night flying possible, including fifteen beacons in Beaverhead county and a large beacon at Dillon field.

Seven Days Left for First Half 1928 Taxes

Taxpayers have seven days to pay the first half of 1928 taxes before the Friday deadline November 30. County Treasurer Norah Connelley urges timely checks to avoid last day rush as payments trend favors full amounts with 508 property owners paying in full and 155 choosing half now.

High School Ag Club to Hold Turkey Shoot Here

The Beaverhead County High School Ag Club plans a turkey shoot in the building formerly occupied by Jasper Nelieig grocery this after noon. Forty turkeys will be awarded and rifles will be .22 caliber. Entrants will be grouped by scores on targets. event sponsored to aid market training and experience in preparing birds for market.

Rink Opens as Dillon Plans Winter Skating

D P Thurber of the Smith-Hughes department floods rear court house lots to create a large new skating rink in Dillon. It will be free for the first three days after opening, then admit at last year's prices. A stove heated building will offer warmth and the rink will be lit for night skating.

City talent to perform in Friendly Enemies at Hartwig theatre

Beaverhead Post No. 20 American Legion presents the three act comedy drama Friendly Enemies at the Hartwig theatre in early December. Arthur Roberts directs the local cast of about 48 selected actors with rehearsals nightly starting immediately after casting.

Mining Activity Advances In Dilloni Region Prospects Rise

Spokane's Charles Hussey and B N Sharpe of Standard Silver-Lead tour Dilloni mines. Ermont gold mine west of Melrose yields over 50 000 tons of ore at about eight dollars per ton. Jackrabbit Silver Lead mill near Melrose shows high grade ore on 200 foot level. 14 workers to ship next week. Other mines include Calvin Jackrabbit Commonwealth and Packer plus Peabody operations with steady shipments to Murray smelter averaging two to three thousand dollars per car.

Paul Sells His Store At Monida

Mr and Mrs O J Smith purchased the B H Paul mercantile establishment at Monida in a deal finalized early in the week. The store is a county longtime business with wide southern patronage. Paul has run it for years. the Smiths are former Monida residents now from Missoula. They will assume management immediately.

Dillon Firemen Hold Annual Thanksgiving Dance at City Hall

The Dillon volunteer fire department will host its annual Thanksgiving dance at the city hall auditorium next Thursday evening, Nov. 29, with music by Smithy’s orchestra. Arrangements are being completed, and the department expects to receive its new fire truck early next month.

Red Cross Roll Call Opens in Beaverhead County

The annual Red Cross drive starts next Saturday with county chairman Fred Rife in charge. In Dillon Migs Myrt Erwin will coordinate one day of activities with booths set at banks and colleges and involvement of high school and college girls.

Anna Mautz Dies After Long Illness at 21

Former Dillon girl Anna Mautz died in a Boulder hospital Monday November 12 after a lingering illness. Her funeral was held Thursday at St Rose Catholic church Dillon with high requiem mass by Rev F X Lechner. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. She is survived by father Frank Mautz of Dillon and brother Frank Mautz Jr of Los Angeles.

Goitre in Farm Stock Rears Its Head in Montana

A Montana Agricultural bulletin by Dr. Howard Welch reports goitre in farm animals is most serious in the southeastern state along creeks and rivers. Most cases occur northeast and along the Milk River, with fewer in central Montana near the Little Belt mountains. Comedy to Be Given At Hartwig

Three Wise Fools a famous Broadway comedy will be presented at the Hartwig theatre next Friday evening November 23 by a New York cast under the Independent Play company. The three act emotional comedy originated at the Criterion theatre New York and has had long runs in New York Australia and London. The cast includes Louis Ramdell Thaddeus Gray George Winn Pearl Gray Harry Martin Herbert Treitel Heywood Ginn and Paul Terhune.
