The War Industries Board announces partial lifting of curtailments as industries formerly restricted for war needs may raise output to 60 percent of prior limits. Passenger automobiles may reach 75 percent of annual capacity. Public works and utilities expansion are allowed, with priority to shipbuilding, energy, and reconstruction needs in Europe.
The Montana food administration reports Flora B Armstrong of Armstead Beaverhead county violated hoarding rules but shifted stance after a Bozeman conference with enforcement chief W S Hartman. She admitted the violation and then contributed $500 to the Beaverhead Red Cross and paid her county war chest allotment. The case rests for now with continued oversight of future flour and sugar purchases.
George Metlen resigns as bridge engineer for the highway commission and, with Dillon’s Jack Keenan, leases the Lewis Penwell company Beaverhead ranch. The 2500 acre property includes 1000 acres under plow and an irrigable dam and ditch system. Metlen will inventory stock and plan cultivation, with his family remaining until next summer.
Automobile dealers and gas suppliers announce the war industries board ban is lifted. Stores will operate day and night including Sundays and holidays selling gasoline automobil e accessories and supplies at all times.

Elizabeth Harrison Smith, 23 soon to be 24, died at her parents’ home in Dillon after a brief battle with pneumonia following influenza. She was married December 9 in Tacoma to Don Smith, now serving in France. She worked at the Dillon telephone exchange and was beloved by family and community. Her funeral was at the family home, burial at Mountain View with relatives left in Dillon.
Attorney Roy Stephenson reported the death of his brother in the east on Monday, noting the loss in a brief statement.
Joseph Lyons died just after six o clock last Monday at his mother's home on Kentucky avenue after influenza and pneumonia. He was thirty, born in the Centennial valley. Survived by his mother, three brothers Mark Roscoe Webster Phil and three sisters Mrs Porch Mrs Baker and Miss Irene Lyons. Mark is in the Marines currently in Dillon. Irene Lyons nurses at the Paul ranch near Monida.
The five week Spanish influenza outbreak shows improvement with Curtis hospital near full capacity, Magnus hospital almost cleared, and most new cases mild. Sixteen deaths occurred in Dillon area with many outside patients treated locally. Jail fumigation and strict quarantine persist as health officials praise Dr Walker and Red Cross leader B W Stevenson.
George Cockerall aged 46 died last Friday morning at the county poor farm after a tuberculosis illness. He was brought in from the Centennial Valley around November first. He had trapped in the area and little is known about him. The funeral was held in Dillon.
The War Industries Board issued revised rules allowing construction projects costing up to 25000 to proceed without permits and up to 10000 for other non war construction. Secretary Greenfield of the Montana Council of Defense received notice of the changes. The revisions were adopted at a Washington meeting with WIB officials and state representatives. Approved projects include all farm and ranch buildings, railroad and utility construction, and works undertaken by the United States railroad administration or related companies.
Elna Peterson eighteen year old Dillon senior dies after influenza weakens her recovery from an appendicitis operation at Curtis hospital. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. She was daughter of Mr and Mrs Berty J Peterson and survived by sister Velberg and brothers Elmer and Christian.
Washington dispatch reports the Interstate Commerce Commission will enforce daylight saving time along the new zone line from the Blackfeet reservation eastward to the continental divide through Helena Butte and Dillon. Mountain time will be observed on all cities on this line effective from the first of the year with revised railroad timetables accordingly.
Earl Jones son of Mr and Mrs Jeff Jones residing on a ranch near Monida died last Wednesday evening at his home after several days illness from influenza. The entire Jones family was stricken but the remaining members are reported to be recovering.
Frank Hazelbaker county food administrator received notice that sugar rations will drop to four pounds per person after December first.
Frank Thompson traveled to Butte yesterday afternoon in what appears to be a routine visit with no notable incidents reported.
Mrs. Charles Wilson arrives from the Maiden Creek Ranch on Horse Prairie and will spend the week visiting relatives in the area.
Hugh McCaleb discovered about fifty pounds of sugar hidden below his pantry bin after a war time regulation caused the bin to be emptied. He noted a small hole and realized sugar had accumulated in a damper beneath the bin, prompting neighbors to search their own caches.
Hiram Brundage brought in the remains of Ed Finkledey, a dry land farmer from Stone Creek, who died of influenza. The body awaits disposition as the widow is seriously ill with the epidemic.
Local dealer Chris Hansen unloaded a whole carload of Moore automobiles last Thursday. Several cars have been distributed and the stylish little vehicles are drawing considerable attention.
William Humphreys known as Smokey Bill died in Salmon City after a brief illness from influenza. He had lived in the city for years and was well known in the community.
Washington November 18 brief consideration was given in the senate to Senator Myers Montana bill authorizing the secretary of the interior to survey unentered public lands to provide a place for discharged soldiers.
A L Stone president of the State Bank of Dillon was whisked to Butte this morning with an acute appendicitis attack. Dr G G Brown transported him and he will undergo an operation at Murray Hospital.
Mrs. Etta Shuck completed a purchase of the Elk cafe in Dillon last week. She installed a full day and night crew and plans 24 hour service to patrons, with renovations and several changes completed.
