Results of AAA elections across four county districts named delegates and alternates for the county convention to be held December 6 in Dillon. New honors at the Logan Utah fox fur show include Forrester Fur Farm Dillon entries winning top honors with one first, two seconds, one third, one fourth, and a fifth for the Tonrey farm.
Kiwanians at the Wednesday meeting heard R. E. Cameron Bozeman speak on 4-H club activities. Remarks also came from Eleanor Nelson county agent and Bernard Williams county extension agent. Sheridan club guests presented three Madison county girls who entertained. Phillip Lovell was chosen secretary for the next year. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jackson and daughter Mildred of Jackson were in Dillon Monday.
A 21 point buck was bagged in Schultz creek area by Herman Peterson and the Ridge Runners. The Bulldogs face Montana U with eight lettermen, including three all conference men, and multiple recruits. The piece notes past talk of games with Montana and Bobcats, and suggests a bright campus basketball horizon.
Dillon Ski club members will elect officers Friday night in the city hall fire men’s quarters from nominees selected by a committee. An Elkhorn slides development reel will be shown along with club entertainment. A bank night offers three ski tow tickets as prizes.
The Dillon post office will be open tomorrow and closed on November 27 for Thanksgiving per a bulletin from the postmaster general. Rural delivery is suspended tomorrow but rural routes operate on the 27th. Citizens are warned of a rule limiting unsolicited holiday packages to the United Kingdom to five pounds total and two pounds per food item, clearly marked.
George Stewart of Wisdom, a sophomore in agriculture at Montana State College, was appointed chairman of the lunches and banquets committee of the Agricultural club. Stewart, a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, was appointed by club president Dan Mizner of Deer Lodge.
Mrs Wilhelm Jensen returned Wednesday from a three weeks visit with her son and other relatives in California.
National Education week was observed at Bagley school auditorium last Friday afternoon under Roy Graves. The program included the pledge, songs led by Ruth Eklund and others, a senate discussion on bicycle and parking etiquette, and a talk on Education Week by Dr. S. E. Davis of the Normal college.
Peter Sweeney and Frank Rebish two selectees recently sent to the Missoula induction center from Dillon are reported from Fort Lewis Washington as assigned to the infantry replacement training center at Camp Roberts California From that depot they will be re assigned to permanent units.
George Burwell of Dillon spent a night in the Bull Creek Elk Horn section while trailing a wounded elk. He joined a search party of Dillon and Grasshopper residents after dawn, trudging through 8 to 10 inches of snow to reach the camp where warmth and food awaited before plans to resume the hunt.
Band Boosters Banters staged by the National Honor Society entertained in the auditorium and started the band uniforms fund with 150 dollars. Rain kept attendance steady. Leading clubs presented 10 minute skits while judges Miss Myrtle Savidge Miss Ruth Phelps and Ed Buck picked winners. First prize of 10 dollars went to the Glee clubs directed by Miss Ruth Harrison.
Pat Downing, about 71, believed to have died from a heart attack last Wednesday after stepping from his car to pump a tire on a road near Zeigler Springs. No inquest was held. He had lived in Beaverhead County 17 years, came from Arizona, and leaves a wife, four sons Norman Kenneth Patrick Dillon and Donald of Boise, a daughter Fern Steffes of Butte, brother Grant Downing of Bremerton, and a sister in Arizona. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J A Meeke at Lima with burial in the Lima cemetery.
Funeral services for the late Ellis J. Bean, former Centennial valley resident, were held last Saturday at 11 am in the Brundage chapel Dillon with Rev. J A Meeke in charge. Burial followed at Jones Cemetery in Centennial. A large turnout from Centennial valley and the southwestern county accompanied the remains. Bean left seven years ago for the coast and died last Monday in a logging accident near Aberdeen Washington. He was son of Milton H Bean and survived by three brothers and three sisters.
Miss Bertha Huber Miss Elizabeth Shotwell Miss Mary Innes and Anna Thompson spent Sunday in Melrose visiting at the Gebhart Fassler home.
With a week into the Red Cross drive 800 members have enrolled and line charts show daily gains. Committee chair Ed Buck and officials urge county-wide support to hit the 2100 member quota, a peak not seen since World War I days. Chapter Chair Lee R. Light says the annual meeting will be open to all members.
Sophomore team defeats freshmen 51 to 34 to clinch interclass title as college season opens. Tuesday scores had freshmen 47 21 juniors. sophomores 42 21 seniors. Aitken led with 18, Good 14, Burgess 10 for sophomores. Farrell ton 13, Bud Degan 12 for freshmen. Seniors beat juniors 22 21 for third place with Wheat 8 and Dupuis 6. Grant 10 for juniors.
Fifteen of twenty one men were placed in 1-A for immediate service at a Beaverhead board session. Beaverhead County avoids the Dec 2 3 calls due to credits. Rife left for Naval Air training at Sand Point near Seattle. others listed include 1-B 4-F and 3-A classifications. Local board urges ranchers and employers to help keep classifications current.
George H Dixon longtime Lima ranch worker and former Lima and Beaverhead County resident died Monday night after a long illness at Barrett hospital. A Knights of Pythias funeral will be held in Lima with time to be announced. Born in Rusthhayes England on August 30 1860 he came to the United States as a youth and settled in the Lima area in 1884 becoming naturalized in Dillon in 1897. Two brothers in Hull England are listed as the only known relatives. The body will be taken to Lima from Brundage mortuary tomorrow.
Beavers face Deer Lodge in first home game Friday night December 12 to start the high school basketball season. Coach Harold Babcock plans curtain-raiser leagues for interclass play, with Sheridan, Ennis, and Harrison games on the December schedule. Eight lettermen return: Rogan Willey Grant Kamps Holden Dart Deputy and Conger.
Normal college assembly featured two Gargoyle club one acts last Wednesday. Low Bridge satirized bridge playing women led by Elizabeth Knowlton Edith Lennon Jean Wilson and Margaret Miller. The Unsuccessful Burglar depicted a timid butler reformed after a midnight conference with a bold young woman with Richard Sipes as the thief and Marjorie Decker as the daughter of the matron Shirley Clark.
