Exhibitors urged to price work accessibly to reach homes churches and offices. National Art Week was established by President Roosevelt in 1940.
Cornell Ros coe Cornell was elected Kiwanis president at the club’s regular meeting held last Wednesday at the St James guild hall. Theodore F. McFadden and Kenneth Wheat were named vice presidents, R M Stone treasurer, and W D Myers Ed Donovan P J Lovell Archie Green joined the board of directors. Percy Frazier, executive in the Butte Boy Scout council, gave a talk on Boy Scouting. Chet Jackson of the Forest Service attended as guest.
Beaverhead county taxpayers paid 25 993 43 of 347 300 charged on 1941 rolls as treasurer resumes collections after Armistice Day. Mail payments dominate with 80 percent in full. livestock assessments drive increases. A male pup from Forrester Fur Farm won whiteface class at Blackfoot show. farm also took third and fifth in other classes. Six animals to be shown at Logan Utah three day show starting tomorrow.
World War II veteran Leon D. Evans was honored with military rites at his Dillon funeral held at Brundage Chapel. Rev. W J Lewis officiated with Chaplain Raymond P. Jones and a color guard from the American Legion. Evans died Friday at Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital after months of ill health at 53, leaving wife Frances and sons Leon R and Monte Dingley among others in Dillon.
Dillon's city council held its first regular meeting on November 5 with two hours of routine business. Mayor Megquire recommended bills for detailed review by Clerk W. G. Gilbert. Water Commissioner Elza Patrick reported removal of fire plugs at Texaco and Husky stations, at company expense, and the council condemned loud liquor-establishment noise and canned music as a nuisance.
Anaconda Legionnaires beat local vets in a four match contest at Dillion Bowling Center. Horvath led with 552 across three games and a 201 high game. Davidson followed with 549. Ross topped Dillon with 531. Visiting squad included Horvath and others. Beaverhead Post members also listed. Afterward Dillon Legionnaires hosted a lunch at Metlen hotel.
Ellis J. Bean longtime Centennial valley resident was killed in a logging mishap near Aberdeen Washington yesterday morning. He was a Beaverhead County native and son of Milton Bean. Funeral plans are not complete with burial likely at Centennial Cemetery. Survived by three brothers Milton H. Bean Monida Andrew J. Salmon and Farmer Bean Spencer Idaho and three sisters Mrs Raymond Noyes Chinook Mrs Jim McBride Lima Mrs Grace Judy Salmon and Mrs W L McDowell Dillon.
Beaverhead county launches its annual American Red Cross membership drive with a goal of 2100 members. Campaign plans outlined by Drive Chairman Edwin Buck with district assignments and canvass instructions. Funds will be split with locals receiving half for chapter activities and the other half contributing to the national Red Cross to aid armed forces recreation and welfare.
The annual interclass tournament at the college gymnasium kicks off the Normal basketball season with tune up games attracting many fans. Tomorrow afternoon the college squad begins practice and Coach Bill Straugh will select the varsity soon.
Grass fat Beaverhead beef finished on grain molasses cake and chopped hay at the Harrison feed lot will be a feature offering in Safeway stores across the Northwest. A carload was shipped to Butte for Safeway distribution until last Wednesday with another truckload expected this week. T. W. Sargent and Art Bay led the shipment.
A slate of nominees for the Dillon Ski Club was presented by a committee at the first meeting of the season in the city hall fire department quarters. The election is set for Friday November 21 with candidates for president vice president secretary treasurer and five directors.
Formal organization of the Beaverhead County Child Welfare Council was effected at the courthouse meeting last Wednesday afternoon. Elected officers are A C Henneberry president, Mrs A S Johnson vice president, and Margaret Sweeney secretary with committees for contact and publicity. The council unites civic educational fraternal philanthropic and rural groups to survey needs and coordinate welfare efforts.
Herbert Kibler of the American Legion spoke at a Beaverhead Post ceremony in the high school auditorium. The program drew several hundred attendees including pupils, teachers, students, townspeople, and Legionnaires, who heard a forceful defense of U S war goals and Navy patrols to protect supply ships amid the Hitler threat.
County chairman J C Ferguson announces the AAA delegate election in four communities on Saturday November 15 with all districts meeting at 3 00 p m in Jackson Dell Dillon Reichle. Delegates will assemble later to select county delegates. The farm defense signup closes November 20 for 1942 AAA program participation.
A Salmon Lembeadore delegation gathered with Co. Com. Archie Henneberry of road district 2 and Sec. J. L. Mayland of the Chamber of Commerce to plan winter road maintenance. They then traveled to Butte to meet that Chamber in the evening. Delegates include T. O. Beers F. L. Weil Paul McPherson John Rathjen Charles Herndon and others.
William Suthard of Dillon received notice of acceptance for service in Britain's civilian technical corps as a radio technician and will depart for England soon. He would have joined 17 American technicians aboard the ill fated North Atlantic boat, had paperwork not caused delay. Suthard, a former U S Army coast artillery man, had applied months ago and passed all exams while serving as a radio technician at Dillon Furniture Co. and earning well wishes from friends.
Percy Sholes of Ted Harper Post at Wisdom Bob Marches seault of Polaris and Gottlib Lohner of Grant were among visiting Legionnaires in Dillon for Beaverhead Post's celebration yesterday.
The annual Jackson turkey shoot set for November 23 adds a clash of marksmen. A five-man Jackson team challenged all comers and the defense claims the invite is for a turkey dinner. Events include .22 and high power rifle shooting along with trap. Teams include Johnny Krause Johnny Jackson Bill Jacobs Jack Hurley Tom Pendergast and Herman Peterson Vic Westergard Pete Westergard Mel Jones Hank Hignight.
The Band Boosters Banters, a sprightly variety show, will be staged Friday night in the high school auditorium under the Beaverhead chapter of the National Honor Society. Proceeds fund new band uniforms. seven clubs contribute 10 minute acts. judges will award a $10 prize to the best act. Dress rehearsal is Thursday at 7 15 pm and a Friday matinee at 3 00 pm.
