Basketball Practice at MSNC Begins
Montana State Normal College opened basketball practice this week with eleven players reporting. Coach William Straughan said graduation and the war effort depleted last year’s team, requiring a whole new lineup. Practices will run afternoon and evening sessions with a 15-game conference schedule starting December with Ricks College. first league game January 9. Beaverhead county men head to Fort Douglas for Army induction
Members of the November draft contingent from Beaverhead county rode the morning train to Butte for final physicals before induction at Fort Douglas Utah. They will return to Dillon for a week then depart again for Fort Douglas. Deadline Set for November 30 Real Estate Taxes
Co. Treasurer Bertie Mathews announces the first installment of 1942 real estate tax is due by November 30. Delinquent payments incur an additional tax. Property taxes are due this month in full. So far 46,364.91 has been paid toward a 329,141.15 total. The second installment is due May 31, 1943, with many owners paying both at once. Of 683 taxpayers, 492 have paid both installments. Miss Mathews urges prompt payment to avoid long lines.
Mt Iron Man Sentenced to Prison With Army Enlistment
Calvin Edstom of Mt. Iron Minnesota was sentenced to one year in state prison by Judge George W. Padbury in Helena this morning. The term is suspended on the condition that he enlist in the armed forces after his Aug. 25 arrest on a hold-up charge at the Wilbur cafe.

Many Types Machinery to Be Rationed
Beaverhead county Farm Machinery Rationing committee will ration about 70 types of farm equipment in 1948. State quotas will be set per type and divided among the county, with some items possibly unavailable. Frozen dealer stock will remain until quotas are set, while parts stocks are unfrozen and funded to meet 1940 repair levels. Farmers urged to prepare machinery for the big 1948 production effort.
