Dillon Elks have prepared for their annual charity ball to be held next Saturday night November 21 at Dillmont park. The event draws the largest dance crowd of the year and will use cash and food donations for the public library and training school.
Dillon's first preaching mission brings together six churches in a cooperatively led effort. Opening services Sunday featured union gatherings at the Methodist church with Rev J A Meeke presiding and Rev H J Schmidt delivering the sermon, plus concurrent Catholic and Lutheran services. Union services continued Monday at the Methodist church with Rev Willis J Loar and services at the Lutheran church, while noonday services were held at the Hartwig theater led by Rev H N Tragitt.
The Dolphins of Montana State Normal college staged a water pageant titled Dress Parade at the State college plunge in Bozeman last Saturday with afternoon and evening performances. The event, directed by Miss Marjorie Hamer, marked the first aquatic pageant in Bozeman and will travel to Deer Lodge next Saturday. Home show at the Normal plunge is scheduled for December 11 and 12 with many Dolphin members performing.
Lige R Brig Young 37 popular Beaverhead county cowboy died yesterday morning at Barrett hospital after years of illness. Born March 12 1899 in Crow Wing Minnesota he moved to Beaverhead as a youth and worked on ranches including P and O Livestock. He excelled in rodeo and relay races. Survived by seven sisters and two brothers with two sisters visiting Dillon recently. Funeral tomorrow at 2 30 pm from Brundage chapel with Dillon Elks lodge oversight and burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
Laws to curb highway refuse are tightened by Beaverhead board. Violators face a 25 dollar fine or 30 days in jail. The Art club with AAUW runs an autumn gift shop featuring member crafts and Indian works to support the library.
Advisory board members for Montana Grazing District No. 5 will be elected next Tuesday Nov. 24. Meetings will be in Dillon and Boulder at 10 a.m. with caucus during noon intermission and ballots open 2 to 5 p.m. Cattlemen vote for cattlemen and sheepmen for sheep men. The district covers five counties Beaverhead Madison Silver Bow Jefferson and Broadwater.
The Red Cross faces increased demand as the adjusted compensation act of January 1936 helps many veterans file claims. Officials note reductions in federal relief funds and the end of the federal transient service push more ex veterans to seek aid. The Examiner adopts a new, clearer type to boost readability.

W Averell Harriman announced Sun Valley in the Sawtooth mountains south central Idaho will open December 21. As Union Pacific sponsor he said the resort surpasses the Austrian and Swiss Alps for skiing and winter sports with two mile downhill runs and facilities for luxury and simple comfort.
George Knight, Montana state horticulturist, told Dillon Rotary Club the William Irvine seed potato project in Dillon is the largest of its kind in the northwest. From 245 acres the grower ships 75 carloads of 12 varieties, with a large payroll and local labor-saving machines. Knight also showed project and forestry pictures, noting pruning errors. Guests included William Irvine and Philip Cottom.
Beaverhead county reports a vigorous Red Cross membership drive in progress with strong early response. In Dillon last week booths operated in banks and the post office while volunteers canvassed the business district and several firms displayed 100 per cent strong posters. The campaign runs through Thanksgiving day.
Ray E. Ashworth, prominent Bannack mining man, died Friday morning at his Bannack home after a lingering illness contracted during World War I. A native of Bannack 37 years old, he built mining properties in the district. Survived by widow Daisy Ashworth, mother Mrs. Tom Gannon, Dillon, brother George, Bannack, two sisters and grandmother, Dillon and San Bernardino. Funeral Monday at Brundage chapel with American Legion veterans honors. Rev. J. A. Meeke officiated. burial in Bannack cemetery.
Beaverhead county candidates filed campaign expenditure reports with the deadline looming this afternoon. Most candidates had submitted their expenses this morning while the two central committees also reported receipts and expenditures.
The hunting year ends with migratory water fowl closed on Nov 8 and big game season ending last Sunday. Beaverhead reports a slight dip in deer numbers and one serious injury for Earl Opp who broke a leg in Elkhorn while transporting a buck. A deer with dual sex and five-point antlers was brought from Argenta by Sheriff-elect Paul Temple.
Beaverhead county high school Beavers defeated Broad water high of Townsend 18 to 0 at the fair grounds grid in the Armistice day celebration. Don Wheat scored all three touchdowns and led ground gain while also key on defense. The Beavers built a 12 point lead by halftime on 3 and 17 yard TD runs and added a 30 yard punt return for the final score.
Mrs Bessi Mori a Dillon resident for 15 years died Saturday at her home after a brief illness. Born in Jackson 43 years ago she lived in the region except for years in Idaho. Survived by daughter Mrs Margaret Swift and son Harold both of Salmon and two sisters. Funeral Sunday from Brundie chapel Rev Father Fox Lechner of St Rose Church officiated with burial in Mountain View cemetery.
