Dorothy Ann Gosman named queen of Beaverhead county high school carnival after a field of 12 candidates. Frances Pickelick runner-up. Jo Ann Deputy, sophomore, won parade first prize and danced a highland fling. Armistice Day events hosted by Beaverhead post American Legion with Prof. Rush Jordan delivering the keynote address on the American Dream.

Generous response as drive gets under way

Beaverhead county's annual Red Cross roll call opened with strong early participation. The drive runs through Thanksgiving Nov 25 with leadership by Rev. HN Tragitt and county and community chairmen across Dillon and surrounding areas. Notable 100 percent memberships included the Ermont Mining company.

Burglars Sentenced to Two Years in State Prison

Everett Walters of Knox City and Wesley Lantis of Blackfoot Idaho pled guilty to a burglary at Circle cafe on Montana Street. They forced entry via a rear air vent between 3 and 6 am on Nov 8 and stole $80 from cash registers. They were taken into custody on Armistice Day. Sheriff Temple reported progress in the Dillon Steam Laundry robbery probe.

Anaconda Lodge to Visit Dillon Elks for Drum Corps Display

Members of Anaconda lodge and their ladies with drum and bugle corps will visit Dillon Elks Saturday night. The Anaconda drum corps, state and national champions, will parade with the Dillon group and perform jointly. A parade leads to a city hall dance, with organizing committee listed and over 100 Anacondans expected to attend.

Annual Faculty Dinner Tonight at Beaverhead High

Beaverhead county high school hosts the annual faculty dinner in the music room tonight. Dinner served by home economics girls under instructor Ethel Anderson. Faculty members share vacation trips with Helen Dahlberg on the Panama Canal, Ruby Bogness on Mexico, Cathleen Henkel on Alaska, and Evelyn Rimel on the Orient. Orchestra directed by L A Gregory will perform.

Open season denied for Beaverhead sportsmen seeks hopes for next year

Sheridan Gun club planned two annual shoots at Hotel Ruby with Thanksgiving turkey on November 21 and the Montana flyer championship on December 12. Beaverhead and Montana sportsmen urged extending the open duck season but the U S biological survey rejected the request though hints of future alignment with Montana’s northern location were offered. The season ended before the northern duck flight began, leaving shooters relying on native ducks scattered after early shooting. State Game Warden James Weaver supported continuing the season.

Dell Hotel To Award Turkeys Next Sunday Shoot

The Dell hotel hosts a Sunday shooting event with a chance to win a Thanksgiving turkey upon a cash expenditure. Turkeys of choice variety will be awarded to shooters, expected to attract many from the southern county and Dillon.

Mexico Discussed At Dillon Rotary Dinner

She described rural life with animals as beasts of burden and child freight, noted Americanized phrases among rural children, and depicted sharp contrasts of wealth and poverty alongside rapid modernization.

Boxing bouts highlight Dillon Elks meeting program

The annual father and son party sponsored by the Dil Jon Parent Teachers Association will be held Tuesday evening November 30 in the high school gymnasium. Harold Snow chairs the event and says full program details will be released next week.

Dillon Gun Club Ace Returns From National Shoot

Herman Peterson of Dillon Gun Club placed 449 of 500 in the national all around shoot in Orleans Indiana. He trailed leader Joe Hiestand by three as top shooters completed 100 singles doubles 24 yard handicap skeet and flyers. The Big Hole area also attended Ira Walker funeral in Anaconda following his sudden death on the way to Seattle.

Rev. Richard Price Accepts Miles City Episcopal Post

The Rev. Richard Price of Whitefish, longtime rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, will leave about November 30 to serve Emmanuel Church in Miles City. He has also ministered at Columbia Falls Eureka Libby and Troy, and will oversee Forsyth and Rosebud with rural visits planned in summer.

J. W. Deputy Passes Away at Dillon Ranch Home

J W Deputy, 73, longtime Beaverhead county resident, died Sunday afternoon at his ranch south of Dillon after a long illness. News of his passing shocked his many friends in the community.

Turkey Shoot and Raffle Set at Keenan Ranch near Dillon

A turkey raffle and card party Saturday night and a turkey shoot Sunday are planned at Jack Keenan ranch three miles north of Dillon. The public is invited to attend both events with free lunch Saturday. Sunday’s shoot offers classified shooting for all abilities. shooters should bring their own rifles.
