Prominent Dillon Citizen Dies After Illness

Frank C. McFadden longtime Dillon public administrator and city treasurer died Friday at Barrett Hospital after a two week illness from pneumonia. Known as Mac McFadden he rose from horse dray operator to own the Dillonery with his wife, served as public administrator since 1934 and as city treasurer since 1933. Survived by his widow son Ralph and two grandchildren, funeral at Presbyterian church Monday afternoon with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Dillon to host county music and physical education institutes

On Monday November 15 Dillon hosts the Beaverhead County high school public speaking room for music and physical education institutes. State supervisors Ronald Cook and Carl Klass lead sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with demonstrations, classroom projects, and talk on a five point music program.

Grace Memorial church sale to feature auction rummage and lunch

Ben Davis has accepted leadership for a big sale by Grace Memorial Methodist Church on Saturday November 20. The event includes an auction at a yet to be announced location, a sale at the Davis Garage Room, and a rummage sale at City Hall with Mrs. Archie Green and Mrs. John Neal leading various committees. Luther Smith will auctioneer the day, with Norman Ovitt Ed Ferris Frank Hazelbaker and others assisting. The drive supports the church board under Ed Ferris and Judge Lyman H. Bennett attended from Virginia City for the session.

Rotary talk highlights Earl Allen on Mexico and travels

Earl Allen art instructor spoke at the Dil ton Rotary meeting, projecting color views of Mexico. He described a 2000 mile jeep journey with Mrs. Allen, noting scenic landscapes and early churches, and explaining cultural continuity and progress. James M. Suspect Held on Forgery Charge

Bill Anderson was arrested by police and jailed on a felony forgery charge for allegedly forging John Mead’s name on a traveler’s check. He has not been arraigned in district court. police chief Dan Mooney says he has admitted the accusation.

Federation of Women's Clubs Holds Semiannual Meeting in Dillon

More than 40 Beaverhead County Federation of Women's Clubs members gathered at Beaverhead County High School for a morning business session, then a noon luncheon at the Andrus hotel. Dr. Sheldon E. Davis spoke on Statistics and the Devil, with musical numbers by Mary Baker and Dan Boka, accompanied by Mary Gilmer. Guests included the Dillon Shakespeare Club, Wisdom and Wise River clubs, and former president Mrs. Mary A. Shaw. current president is Mrs. Peter Rasmussen.

Koenig Leads Shoot at Dillon Rifle Club Friday

Koenig scored 91x100 offhand for a total 283 to win the Dillon Rifle Club regular shoot Friday evening. Hignight was second with 279 and Ballou third at 273, followed by other marksmen with scores including Sommers 213 Langdorf 237 Rosenau 225 Jacobson 249 Patterson 222 Fournier 233 Simon 271 and Sassman 269.

R. E. Foster dies after Montana accident near Rock Springs

Rodney Eugene Foster 68, longtime Dillon resident, died in a Rock Springs Wyoming hospital after an auto crash near the city. His wife and sister-in-law were not seriously hurt. son Walter and Mrs. Foster traveled by chartered plane to Rock Springs. Foster had operated in Dillon as a candy shop owner and later in livestock, wool brokerage, and sheep ranching in Roberts Idaho. Funeral services are planned in Dillon with interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Beaverhead County High School Band had planned a 9 45 Thursday parade but the event was cancelled. Rev J M Hunter led selections including Over There There’s Something About A Soldier Battle Hymn of the Republic Onward Christian Soldiers. The program featured Sheldon E Davis Montana State Normal College president emeritus and college chorus director W G Gilbert Jr Sam Davis and Brinton Jackson remarks followed by a minute of silence and taps.

Dillon stores county and state offices post office and both banks will be closed Thursday in observance of Armistice Day. All schools will remain in session.

Ralph Cummings Dies at 50 in County Farm Care

Ralph Cummings, 50, a long time resident, died Sunday at the county farm where he had received treatment. A painter by trade, he last worked at the Metlen hotel. Native of Kansas, he spent much of his life in Oregon and Texas. Relatives could not be contacted and funeral arrangements were not yet set. Remains are at Brundage funeral home. Edwin S. Buck visited from Butte for Montana Power Co. demonstration at the guild hall.

Bodies of Two War Heroes on Way Home

Notification states the remains of Lt. Clyde J. Casterline and Pfc. Donald R. Nelson are being returned from the European theater for burial at home. Casterline, Air Corps, was killed when his plane was shot down over Italy January 21, 1945. Nelson died in the Corsica invasion March 16, 1944. Both were natives of Dillon and educated there.

District Auxiliary President to Visit Local VFW Post

District No 4 president Esther Porter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries will visit the Lloyd Whipple post auxiliary Tuesday evening at the I.O.O.F. hall. Ruth Smith urges attendance. Businessman Fitzsimmons Dies After Week in Hospital

Andrew Jackson Fitzsimmons longtime Beaverhead County resident died Monday at Barrett hospital after a week of illness. Born 1880 in San Antonio Texas he moved to Montana circa 1930 built a large second hand store in Lima area and served as U S Army engineer guard during World War I. Survived by widow six children and four grandchildren. funeral Thursday at Brundage chapel with interment Mountain View Cemetery.

Beaverhead County High Honor Roll Tops Fall Quarter

Six students lead Beaverhead County High School with straight A averages, including three seniors two freshmen and one sophomore. The roll lists 15 seniors 14 juniors 11 sophomores and 14 freshmen with Bonnie Martin John Peterson Dolores White as 3000 averages. George Helming of Wisdom visits Dillon early in the week.

Bulldogs Top Kicks Friday in Home Game

Normal Bulldogs beat Ricks College of Ida ho 3 to 0 in a high scoring Friday night affair. Al Taylor rushed 50 yards in the opening quarter and again in the second to set a season wide individual record. Ricks added a lone third quarter touchdown aided by Bulldog penalties as the season concludes and coach Straugh announces a basketball schedule opening November 29 with Anaconda VFW in Dillon.

District Deputy Lympus of Montana West will visit Dillon Elks Lodge No 1554 for an 8 o clock session in the I O C F hall. A class of candidates will be initiated and a dance follows the business meeting admission by paid up card. He was appointed by Grand Exalted Ruler G R Hall at the Philadelphia convention last July. He previously served as exalted ruler of Hellgate Lodge No 383 in Missoula.
