The decision also permits requiring a defendant to wear a coat linked to the crime, stating it does not force testimony against oneself. Justice Holmes notes the trial judge acted within discretion, and jurors remain competent to fulfill their role. The ruling sustains James H. Holt’s life imprisonment for the Fort Wosden barracks murder of Henry Johnson.
