Washington reports the Eisenhower administration will push to limit government competition with private business. In three years 492 federal commercial activities were discontinued or curtailed, including 355 by the Defense Department such as 83 office and repair shops, bakeries, laundries, and more. Civilian agencies cut 137, with bakeries and ice plants among them. Taxpayers gain as over a billion dollars are returned to the Treasury via liquidation and privatization efforts.

WMCE gets $400000 loan for student union and housing
The United States Housing and Home Finance Agency approved a $400,000 loan to Western Montana College for a new student union building and two apartment complexes for married students. Beaverhead County Votes Strong GOP Showing in Ike Upset Trend
Beaverhead County posted one of its heaviest election turnouts with about 3,000 of 3,492 voters casting ballots. Lt. Governor Gosman led county results with 2,069 votes, while Prohosky won the county commissioner race 1,929 to 936. The 3-mill road levy barely passed 1,079 to 1,074 and the anti-diversion amendment carried 1,833 to 732.

City to consider paving districts for Highway 91 routes
A special City Council meeting on November 19 will decide on creating two paving districts for U S Highway 91 reconstructions through Dillon. Each route includes Atlantic Street. one follows Glendale to Montana, the other Helena then Montana. Two Navajo Workers Die in 10-Below Snow at Monida
Two men, Joe Allen and Leonard Johnson, both about 36, died from exposure after becoming trapped in a deep snow borrow pit near a Union Pacific bank car in 10 below weather. They and two companions from Lukachukai, Arizona, had spent Friday night at a Monida bar before returning to the site early Saturday. Authorities found them around 7 am. one man died en route to the bunk car, the other died at Brundage mortuary. The four relatives were part of a railroad crew and were buried on the Navajo reservation.
