Junior Red Cross Drive Under Way in Dillon and Lima

A drive for Junior Red Cross enrollment in the Dillon and Lima schools runs until November 15 after a meeting of Red Cross officers and school representatives. Miss Margaret Sweeney is named county Junior Red Cross chairman. Supt. O Kay Moe states Montana laws block direct school state meals contracts with the federal agency. Education board has no budget for lunch programs and cannot be reimbursed. only civic groups may sponsor such arrangements under current rules. Twin Bridges 4-H Record Contest Winner Named

Pauline Bunting announced state 4-H record contest winners at Montana State college. Six winners earn trips to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. Billie J. Beaverhead Tax Notices Mailed for Real Estate and Personal Taxes

Beaverhead county taxpayers received 3,214 notices this week with first half real estate due by Nov 30 and full personal tax payments. The total billed amount is 316,674.51, per County Treasurer Evelyn Lloyd, with early payments higher than average but only modest progress on the overall amount. Halloween Parties Are Distinct Success

Mrs. R. A. Long, mother of Mrs. Edna Blackburn and Rev. L. Belle Long, pastor of the First Baptist church, died Sunday morning at her home in Library, Pa. She was 83. Death was due to a heart attack. Miss Long had been with her mother for the past two months, and Mrs. Blackburn left for Pennsylvania Sunday.

Dr. H. L. Casebeer of Butte spoke at the Dillon Rotary dinner on aviation from a civilian angle. He urged communities to build large airport facilities for postwar advantages and noted air mail growth. The talk praised the helicopter’s potential despite current flight challenges and emphasized fitness and health as prerequisites for pilots.

Dillon Hosts Three Halloween Parties for Youth and Community

Dillon held three Halloween events for children and teens Saturday night. Primary pupils attended a party at the primary building with many parents present. Bagley students marched to city hall for a near full attendance parade led by the grade school band. High school staged the Girls' club formal in a harvest themed gym with Dan Boka and Hayes Baxter's orchestra providing music. Refreshments included coffee doughnuts popcorn balls candy and kolache.

Tests Scheduled for Army and Navy Programs at High School

The second qualifying test for the Army Specialized Training program and Navy College Program V-12 will be given in Room 113 at Beaverhead County High School next Tuesday at 9 o'clock. Simon P Grim Dies After Illness in Dillon

Simon P Grim 56 a Dillon resident for four years died Monday night after a long illness. He was born April 25 1887 in Laurin and spent most of his life in Butte working in mines. He served in World War I and was honorably discharged as a corporal. Survived by wife Jessie Grim two sisters Rose Gilligan Dora Sweeney and Mary Thomas brother Oscar plus four stepchildren and several nieces and nephews. Beaverhead county joins a nationwide National War Fund drive aiming for a 5000 dollar quota to support USO and 17 relief organizations. Sheriff John Troupe and state stock inspector D W Erwin warn stockmen not to ship cattle from the county without a proper local inspection.
