Murder brings brutal Beaverhead County mystery
The body of Robert V. Allen was found on his ranch fifteen miles east of Lakeview with a single gunshot and brutal beating. William Calnan, 64, is missing from a nearby ranch and is the subject of a wide search. Police say Calnan threatened Allen, who was believed to be a government spy by neighbors, and the autopsy confirms a fatal bullet wound and multiple injuries.

Contract on Lima Dam to Be Set Soon
Bids for the reconstruction of the Lima dam will be opened next Saturday morning in the office of Frank A. Hazelbaker secretary of the Water Users Irrigation company. Bids must be filed before 11 o'clock Saturday morning. If a satisfactory bid is submitted the contract will be set at once and work will start as soon as the successful bidder can bring equipment to the scene. Several contracting firms have already filed bids and others have inquired about specifications. Officials and directors will consider the bids with T. V. Hatcher project engineer in an advisory capacity.

Miss Noella Rainville of Butte a Norman college student and Al Gerlick of City Baking were injured when a car driven by Mr Mayne of Monida struck the rear of the Gerlick machine at Ban nack and Montana streets last evening. Dillon Rainbow Girls Hold Annual High School Formal
The Dillon Order of the Rainbow for Girls hosted its annual formal dance in the high school gym Friday night drawing a large crowd. Baxter-Tonney orchestra provided music as patrons Mrs Jardine Rife Mrs Elmo Winn and Mrs John Orr attended. A Rainbow Girls drill directed by Georgia Metlen was a highlight. Well Known Ranchman of Basin Dies
Beaverhead county mourns Daniel Tovey Sr. veteran Big Hole rancher who died at his daughter Mrs Walter Welts home in Logan Utah from a heart attack after months of illness. He was born January 3 1863 in Box Elder Utah and moved to Montana in 1889 to raise cattle. Survived by his daughter two sons W D Dillon and Daniel Jr Wisdom a brother David a sister Mrs Marjorie Jones and several grandchildren. His sons plus wives traveled to Logan for the funeral.
