Nellie Lovell Dies. Dillon Matron Led State Lodge

Mrs Nellie Lovell a respected Dillon matron and prominent leader in state lodge activities died Saturday morning in Dillon Funeral services conducted by Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star The Armistice day program planned in Dillon by Beaverhead post American Legion includes a band concert patriotic exercises football veterans banquet and public dance with events starting at 10 00 am at the Hartwig theatre. An Armistice program details and committee members are listed.

Rose Dawn at Hartwig presented by St Rose guild

Under the St Rose guild, the Hartwig theatre hosts a sparkling musical comedy Rose Dawn tonight. About 90 people perform under Pauline Peyton’s direction with chorus numbers, vocal and dance solos, lavish scenes and costumes, and an engaging plot. Dillon Foxes Gain Prizes at Idaho Fox Show

Four foxes from Dillon Superior Fox Farm placed in the money at a Rocky Mountain fox show in Blackfoot Idaho competing with animals from Montana Idaho Utah Washington Wyoming and more. They won a first a third and two fifths. Roy Forrester and H L Hatton delivered the foxes to the event.

Ed Ripley Dies in California After Brief Illness

Edward J. Ripley longtime Dillon resident and associate of Ezekiel Provost in a Beaverhead saloon died at his Los Angeles home on Saturday October 28 after a short illness. Born September 12 1851 in Clarinda Iowa he came west as a young man first stopping at Lima. He is survived by his son Elmer of Los Angeles. Funeral was held in Los Angeles.

Man Wanted for Alien Murder Still at Large. Arrest Predicted

William Cannon, implicated in the murder of Robert V. Allen at Centennial valley ranch, remains at large as sheriff reports a trace located. Allen was found Oct 29 near Lakeview with fatal wounds after Oct 19 killing. Red Cross aided disasters nationwide in 1933 fiscal year.

District Deputy to Visit Dillon Elks Next Tuesday

District Deputy Chester Cole of Helena will pay an official visit to Dillon Lodge No. 1554 BPOE at the regular meeting next Tuesday night. Exalted Ruler E W Johnson announces the visit and Beaverhead county Elks are urged to listen to a nationwide radio program on the Columbia network at 8:30 with signals best from KSL or WCCO. President Roosevelt’s message from Cambridge is slated as a feature and Grand Exalted Ruler Walter F Meter will deliver an address.

Two One Act Plays Presented at College

The Normal college dramatics department staged two one act plays this morning. The first, Short Cut by Marcia Cox, featured Cyma Koski as the boy and Willard Albright as the motorcycle cop, drawn from dramatics 62. The second was Stufed Owls, a comedy by Edna.

Vance and Mangus Get Off Lightly in Federal Court

Elmer Mangus and Claude Vance pleaded guilty to the burglary of the Grant post office. Judge Bourquin sentenced them to three months in prison and a $500 fine each, with officials predicting about four months served. Both had prior escapes from the county jail.

Lima dam to start after low bid in Beaverhead county

Jerome C. Boestflug of Miles City won the contract for Lima dam in Beaverhead county with a bid of 37000 dollars, the lowest of three offers from Wheelwright Construction of Salt Lake City and C T Teaming of Butte. Work to begin soon with equipment shipped to the site and local labor used as much as possible.

Verdict favors plaintiffs in Gilbert Gilbert case

The jury awarded Gilbert Gilbert & McFadden $4,600 plus interest from Dec 13 1928 after two hours deliberation in the civil suit against Jack Barrett. Judge Lyman H Bennett presided with plaintiffs self-represented and J E Kelly and P Wilson for the defendant. A separate Union Electric Lovell Livestock damages suit opened in district court after long litigation since 1904 with retrial ordered by the Montana Supreme Court.

Two Found Guilty of Burglary in District Court

Lawrence Oulette and C W Roper were found guilty of burglary by a district court jury after a four hour deliberation. The jury recommended clemency. Roper received five years with bench parole, while Oulette faces a two year sentence and was taken to Deer Lodge. Claude Fitchin noted as an alleged accomplice.

Federal Re Employment Office Established in Beaverhead County

Beaverhead county Montana officials met in special session on October 31 1933 at 10 am. Commissioners Hartwig Rife and Jackson with Clerk Baker approved the notice and ordered actions to establish a federal re employment office per posted notices at court house State Bank and Trust and post office.
