Bond Election To Be Held

Beaverhead Native Nina Gauthier Dies in Butte Hospital

Nina Gauthier a 46 year old Beaverhead County native and Dillon resident died Monday in a Butte hospital after a year of declining health. Born February 4 1899 in Jackson she lived in Jackson Barsnark Dillon and nearby communities. She married Cau ther Gauthier in Dillon in 1922 and is survived by her husband two sons Paratrooper Ray mond F Ashworth and James T Ashworth a mother Mrs Mary Boess two sisters and several in laws and a grandson. Funeral services are announced to be held soon.

Summer School Opens at Normal College Next Monday

The Montana Power company pays $5,190.91 as the second half of the 1944 Beaverhead county property tax, noting it pays more tax than the combined residential and commercial revenue. Summer session at the Normal college to begin next Monday with registration, textbooks issued, and meals starting Monday morning. Faculty includes Miss Genevieve Albertson and Prof. Rush Jordan among others. Miss Myrtle Savidge and Mrs. Elizabeth Steed continue into summer.

Baby Beef Show and Sale Set for June 11

Thirty two head of livestock will enter the fifth annual 4 H and F F A baby beef show and sale to be held in Dillon Monday June 11. County Agent F A Ralston and John Hartwig announced the Beaverhead county high school Smith Hughes instructor. The show starts at 10 in the morning at the fairgrounds with the auction at 2 p m. Future Farmer entrants include Arner Madsen Dale Pettit Leonard Waldemar Arley McLaren Coy Brown Jimmy Roberts John Hren and Erwin Marchesseau.

Funeral of Butte man held here

Edward J. Glennon 49 veteran of World War I and former Butte furrier, died in Los Angeles after a brief treatment stay. Funeral services set for Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St Rose Church with interment at Mountain View cemetery. rosary at Brundage chapel Thursday night.

County AAA Relieved Of One Problem

The County AAA office announces that after June 30 the Office of Price Administration and the Office of Defense Transportation will handle programs without AAA committee input. The county office will no longer fund or assist with truck and tractor tire programs, new trucks, or off highway gasoline. Floyd Kenison notes the office will guide farmers on future handling once instructions are received.

Pioneer of Beaverhead County Dies in California

Mrs. Steve Lasich 91 a Beaverhead pioneer died Monday night at her daughter’s home in Los Angeles after years of poor health. She and her husband homesteaded north of Dillon on the Twin Bridges road about 60 years ago, ran the ranch until his 1926 death, then lived in Dillon and California. Surviving are two daughters in California and one in Calgary Canada, two sons in California and Portland Ore, and several nieces and nephews. Local bond drive turnout exceeded 2 000 with speeches by Larry Smith but Beaverhead remains well short of its Seventh War Loan quota.

Twin Bridges Road Assured by Engineer

The postwar plan confirms the Dillon Twin Bridges route as a federal aid primary road to be upgraded in the first postwar year. The Beaverhead river crossing is debated whether at the Point of Rocks or along the east beach, with a secondary route possible if the latter option is chosen.

Local Legion nominates Beaverhead post officers

Bruce A. Risley was nominated as commander at the Beaverhead post meeting in Andrus hotel. Farnum Schuyler was named first vice president, Ben Davis second vice president, Warren Temple finance officer, Maurice Sullivan sergeant at arms, Luther Smith chaplain, and Parke T. Scott historian. Election set for the final June meeting. Memorial day service plans were completed and reports given on the Mining district convention held May 20.

Beaverhead county paused for Memorial day with the annual Beaverhead post American Legion service at Mountain View cemetery. E J Donovan, World War veteran, delivered a speech urging living to honor the dead by ensuring their sacrifices were not in vain. Post Commander Roy Ferguson opened ceremonies. Chaplain Luther Smith offered prayer. A firing squad participated.
