Mayor Philip J Lovell proclaims Saturday May 26 as Poppy Day in Dillon urging citizens to wear memorial poppies. Disabled veterans and American Legion Auxiliary volunteers will hand out poppies on the streets and collect donations for veterans welfare and children of veterans.

Brownie Scout Troop No. 5 discovered seventy five sticks of dynamite on field trip near the Western College M emblem on the hill southwest of Dillon. Sheriff MacDonald and deputies disposed of the charges after the fuse proved defective.

Man Charged With Burglary for Car Thefts Sunday
A man identified as August W. Thomas was bound over to district court on a burglary charge with $500 bond after arraignment in Justice Court before Judge George E. Baker. Police said he stole a gun and camera from a car on Sunday. the gun holster was sold at a second hand store and the gun and camera were recovered from Thomas cabin, Officer Paul Stahl Sr. said.

Taxpayers and City Council Back Parking Meters Plan
A special city council meeting with about 25 taxpayers voted 15 to 3 in favor of installing parking meters. aldermen will draft an ordinance for June, with meters likely to be paid out by July or August. The group discussed widening and repaying Highway 91 at an estimated cost of 75000, with revenues earmarked for street construction once meters cover costs.

Grant resident and Beaverhead county state senator Jack S. Brenner was elected president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association at the 72nd annual convention in Billings. He succeeds Don Fulton of Ismay. The group adopted 25 resolutions urging self help for beef promotion, opposing price supports, and seeking quotas and high tariffs during surpluses.

Jordan Asks to Retire at Western College President
President Jordan at Western College asked to retire effective September 1 1956 after returning unsigned a one year renewal contract. He sent the unsigned contract and retirement request to the State Board of Education and plans to meet June board action. Jordan has led since 1946 with a 9500 salary and will discuss the proposed 15 million bond issue with Helena officials and chamber leaders.
