Western Montana College to Hold Fifty-Ninth Commencement
Western Montana College of Education will hold its Fifty-ninth annual commencement at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the college auditorium. 48 candidates will receive diplomas, six degrees, and one certificate, with Master of Science in Education awarded for the first time to Edward William Goodrick and Florence Darlington Pinkerton. C. R. Anderson will deliver the address on The Values of Citizenship, with President Rush Jordan conferring certificates, diplomas, and degrees.

Memorial Day Rites Held by Legion and VFW
Veterans groups conducted Memorial Day exercises in two locations Tuesday night. The American Legion led services at Mountain View cemetery with Commander-elect Anthony Bramsman in charge, while the Veterans of Foreign Wars held a ceremony at the Baptist church memorial plaque. A parade through the business district preceded the events, featuring the National Guard Boy Scouts Girl Scouts and Elks Lodge with the Elk's Junior Drum and Bugle Corps.

Beaverhead livestock values drop on 1956 tax rolls
County Assessor Sylvester P. Meade said Beaverhead will see nearly a $1,000,000 decline in livestock assessed values on the 1956 rolls due to about a 20 percent cut in cattle valuations by the State Board of Equalization. Sheep numbers and valuations remain steady, and overall livestock values total about $5.3 million with some gains in other classes offsetting part of the loss.

Massive ore find disclosed by drilling near Dillon Montana
Preliminary drilling on an iron ore deposit near Dillon shows reserves of about 42 million tons. Minerals Engineering Co. chairman Burwell said tests indicate a premium grade concentrate and potential for future expansion to several hundred million tons. A five year contract with Darby & Co. of London for tungsten deliveries was also announced.

Moose Lodge initiates large class at Dillon hall
A large class of candidates was initiated into Dillon Lodge No. 513 Loyal Order of Moose at the ICCF hall Saturday night. The event featured the state champion degree team and Missoula lodge drum and bugle corps, followed by dancing and a lunch in the city hall auditorium. Three Hurt in Wreck South of Dillon Involving Six People
Six occupants of a car leaving Dillon area suffered injuries when the driver failed to negotiate a curve fourteen miles south of Dillon on Sunday morning. Don G. O’Connor, 24, faced a DUI hearing set for June 6 after posting bond. Three hurt seriously were treated at Barrett hospital then moved to Butte facilities. Nolan Griffin and Ray Abbott remained in serious condition with broken leg and spine fracture respectively, Rex Churchill in good condition.

Dillion Man John T Orr Dies After Long Illness
Dillon resident John T Orr aged 74 of Esteemed Pioneer Family died at Barrett hospital last Thursday after several weeks illness. He was a Past Grand Master of Montana Masons and co founder of the P and O cattle ranching legacy. Funeral services were held at St James Episcopal Church with Masonic rites.

Foster Receives $1500 Scholarship Loan for Mines Study
Rodney C. Foster son of Mr and Mrs Walter T Foster of Dillon Montana has been granted a 1500 scholarship loan by the Woman's Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers. The loan is the fifteenth issued by the auxiliary to Montana School of Mines students and the largest to date. Foster, Beaverhead County High School graduate 1947 and Navy veteran, is active in the Anderson Carlisle Technical Society and Sigma Rho. Continued on page 8.
