Beaverhead High School Paper Wins First in Class B

The Beaverhead county high school weekly The Beaver won first place in Montana Class B school papers, with Laurel Laureleaf taking second and Butte Central’s Maroon finishing third. Dillon also earned state accolades as William Boetticher placed second in state declamation. Fay Kirkpatrick sponsors The Beaver, Bill Bayerd edits, and staff includes Ruth Albright, George Kennedy, and many others.

Dillon Girl Crowned May Queen at College

Marguerite Collins of Dillon was crowned queen of the Montana State Normal college May fete held in the college gym. A 275-student audience watched the coronation procession to Mendelssohn's March from Athalia played by the Little Symphony orchestra.

Rural fire truck makes first Dillon run in windy blaze

The Dillon fire department used its new rural truck to respond to a Jim Madsen ranch alarm six miles from Dillon. The truck traveled about 60 miles per hour, reached the shed fire quickly, and controlled the blaze despite strong winds. A shed and one haystack burned. damage estimates were not given.

Old Age Topic Deliberated By Rotary Speaker

Professor Robert Clark of Montana State Normal College addressed the Dillon Rotary Club on the theme Old Age. He urged continuing to form new habits and interests to preserve youth attitudes and called play the greatest means of renewing youth. The Dean’s orchestra provided several numbers.

Walt Lyons Claimed by Tick Fever

Walter H. Lyons of Armstead died at Barrett hospital after a brief illness tied to tick fever. Born February 24, 1888 in Canyon City Oregon, he moved to Beaverhead county years ago and ran a local garage. He was a World War I veteran. He leaves a wife in Dillon and a Oregon-based father and two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held Monday at Brundage chapel with Beaverhead post American Legion honoring him. interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Dillon Elks Anniversary Dance Planned at Dillmont Park

Dillon Elks lodge will host an anniversary dance at Dillmont Park on Friday night May 29 the night before Memorial Day. An Elks orchestra will perform admission by paid up membership cards. Outside lodge members may attend. committee members are C A Beckler Imery K Smith and L Ott Goron.

State Normal College to present two spring piano recitals

The music department will stage two spring piano recitals in the college auditorium on May 25 and 26. Monday features training school pupils with violinist Billy Roebuck. Tuesday presents advanced pupils in eighteen numbers, with quartet of violinists. Also listed is the cast for the annual spring commencement play Adam and Eva and news that Elena Shepcovich of Anaconda was elected president of W. A. A. for the year.

Graduation set as sixty seniors to receive diplomas

Sixty seniors are listed to receive diplomas at the college commencement. The Training School graduation is scheduled for June 4, with the main ceremony set for June 10.

State Park Proposed Near Beaverhead River North of Dillon

A WPA project plans a state park on lands beside the Beaverhead River about a mile north of Dillon. The area survey supports a concrete archway entrance and grounds with camp stores benches and tables for visitors. The Dillon Gun Club and Helena club tied for first in the annual Montana Standard postal shoot with a final 75 each. Dillon’s Charlie Harvester and Helena’s Ted Renfro each posted perfect 25s in the final round.

Beaverhead Delegations Attend State Party Conventions

Beaverhead county delegates attended both state Republican and Democratic conventions in Helena. Democratic delegates included Senator George M. Melton and Representative B. J. Metlen with alternates Leo Truax and Norman Nelson. Mrs. E. B. Roe of Bedrock elected as Democratic alternate to the national convention. Republican delegates were Frank A. Hazelbaker and County Attorney Thomas E. Gilbert with others present. Hazelbaker chaired the Republican order of business committee and participated actively.

Dentist Office Robbed in Dillon Monday Night

Dr. W. J. Romersa reported that his office above McCaleb's was broken into Monday night and robbed. About $100 in gold used for fillings was missing along with several other articles.

Safety Bike Riders Club Formed In City Hall Meeting

The American Legion sponsors a Safety Bike Riders club to improve rider safety. T. Lee McCracken urges parental support for youth participation. Wisdom Chapter Hosts Grand Matron Visit

Grand worthy matron Mrs. Elizabeth Luebben of the C. E. S. statewide attended the Wisdom chapter event Friday evening. A banquet for thirty followed by musical numbers and routine order work.
