Commencement Exercises Set for Beaverhead County High
Commencement activities at Beaverhead County High School begin next Sunday with baccalaureate services in a body. Commencement is scheduled for Thursday night May 21. Four Dillon pastors will take part in the services and the high school orchestra will perform. The music department annual is set for Monday night in the school gym. Class day exercises are Tuesday. Diplomas will be conferred on seniors Archie Anderson, Craig Ander, and others.

Pioneer of Beaverhead dies after long mining ranching life
William Henry McMannis a Beaverhead County mining man and rancher died at his Dillon home after a lingering illness. Born in Braddock Pennsylvania eighty years ago he moved west as a youth, mined in Bannack then ranching in Horse Prairie. Surviving relatives include his widow a daughter and three sons with services held Saturday.

Water Rate Reduction Sought by City Council
The city council approved a resolution for a 20 percent cut in Yilon's water rates at the Wednesday meeting. The measure requires Montana Public Service Commission approval before taking effect, with Mayor D. A. Galt and Water Commissioner Forest Bayerd planning to travel to Helena to seek confirmation of the action.

Rotary Club hears senior play I work at the weekly dinner
Beaverhead County high school seniors presented It Pays to Advertise at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner at the Andrus hotel. Craig Anderson announced the play staged last night at the training school auditorium. President Robert E. Albright announced the Kalispell Rotary convention set for May 24 to May 26 and noted a Dean's band music program for next week. Prof Robin Clark will be the speaker.

Annual Legion Dinner Set for Tomorrow at Metlen
Beaverhead post of the American Legion will hold its annual spring banquet tomorrow night at the Metlen hotel starting at 7 o'clock. The event is expected to draw the largest veteran gathering since Armistice Day and will cover adjusted service certificates, junior baseball, Legion activities, and delegate elections for the mining district convention in Twin Bridges. A junior baseball program meeting drew a large turnout at the fairgrounds last night.

Graduation tasks and services noted for James Hawkins
Funeral services for James B. Hawkins, Montana pioneer and Indian scout, were held Friday at the Masonic hall with the American Legion offering military honors. Interment was in Mountain View cemetery as pallbearers included Charles Haren and Tom Dubois among others. President Sheldon E. Davis plans high school commencements this week at Joplin and Chester with Dr. R. E. Albright delivering the commencement address.

Dillon Men Hurt in Snake Hunt in Hogback
During a snake hunt in Hogback last Sunday two Dillon men were wounded by fragments from a pistol fired at a crevice. Jack Keenan and William Bergeson were treated for non serious injuries after a bursting bullet ricocheted. The party killed 60 rattlers that day, bringing the two week total to 125.

Court of the Queen of Hearts Pageant At Norman College
More than 200 college and training school students will participate in Norman College’s May fete Friday night in the gym. Marjorie Hamer leads the event under the Women’s Athletic association. The pageant’s theme is Court of the Queen of Hearts with many numbers based on Mother Goose rhymes. Ralph McFadden conducts the Little Symphony orchestra for the coronation processional.

Dillon Gunners Lead State Postal Meet as Seniors Stage Play
High school seniors presented It Pays to Advertise at the training school auditorium under Miss Jean Ballard and Miss Marjorie Foote with a large audience. Graduation week activities begin Sunday, including a baccalaureate service and a music department concert. The Dillon Gun club shot a perfect 75 in the Montana Standard postal shoot, maintaining pace atop the standings against Billings Sheridan Glendive and others.

Aldon Bowering six year old son of Mr and Mrs George Bowering of Dillon died yesterday at home after a week long illness of scarlet fever. He is survived by his parents and three sisters and brothers. Private funeral services were held this morning at the grave under auspices of the LD. 8. church.
