State to Build Sacajawea Memorial Park Along Highway 91

Plans announced by the state highway commission call for a nearly mile long park on the west side of Highway 91 north of Armstead to honor Sacajawea. The project includes stone guard rails flagstone walks a memorial and landscaping with grass trees and will cost over 7000 with bids issued last week. The site is noted as the Lewis and Clark expedition camp called Two Forks of the Jefferson.

Chanticleer Club Dinner Meets and Matrix Initiation

Chanticleer Club held a quarter's final dinner at the guild hall with a two course meal at 6 30. Dr and Mrs Davis Professor Robert Clark and Miss Carson attended. Reta Albertson welcomed pledges Tressa Eckert Ernest Desonia Anne Hoekema and Donald Roberts. Eight Chanticleers with 100 points or more were elected into Matrix as an honorary journalism society conducted by Genevieve Albertson.

Beaverhead county high school to hold commencement

Dr Curtis Wilson of Montana School of Mines will speak at the Beaverhead county high school commencement next Thursday May 27 at 8 15 pm in the high school gym. Fifty three seniors will receive diplomas with Patricia Gilbert as valedictorian and Betty Jo Jeppson as salutatorian.

Normal May Fete Staged by Women's Athletic Association

Over 1 500 spectators packed Normal college gym Friday for the annual May Fete under the Women's Athletic Association. Elena Slepcevich of Anaconda was crowned May queen after a student body vote, with Thelma Bartlett Dorothy Blackburn Emma Hughes and Edith Nelson as attendants. The coronation procession moved to the throne to the tunes of March of the Toys played by the Little Symphony orchestra directed by Ralph McFadden.

Memorial ceremony planned by veterans in Wisdom area

Memorial day plans outlined at the Legion meeting in Wisdom with arrangements for a ceremony the evening before at Mountain View cemetery. Public services set for 7 p m at the Legion Memorial plot with a high school band, firing squad, color guard, and taps to honor soldiers of all wars.

Dillon Woman Is Summoned In Pocatello

Mrs Priscilla Smith a Dillon resident for 36 years died Monday night at her son Melvyn’s home in Pocatello Idaho where she had been staying for the past few days She was born in Canada on April 21 1865 came to Beaverhead county in 1901 and married David L Smith in 1901 He died in February 1933 Surviving are a daughter Mrs Roy Call of Klamath Falls Oregon a son Melvyn of Pocatello and several grandchildren The funeral will be held at 2 o clock tomorrow afternoon from the Brundage chapel

Lillian Stone, Beaverhead county home demonstration agent, was guest speaker at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester D. Hirschman longtime Beaverhead residents depart for Bozeman then Seattle to sail May 28 for Tokyo. He will run an American store in Japan’s capital after 30 years in Dillon including 17 years as a Montana Mercantile clerk. Over 100 Masons gathered at the Masonic hall to bid farewell.

Snappy Elk Drum Corps Makes First Public Appearance

The Dillon Elks lodge drum and bugle corps paraded through the business district in new uniforms for their initial appearance since reorganization. A large crowd lined the streets and the corps impressed with disciplined marching despite limited practice time. The event preceded the eighth anniversary dance of the Dillon lodge.

Wisdom Library to Undergo Repair and Porch Addition

At the Wisdom Woman's club meeting Mrs. Mussigbrod spoke on legislation and Mrs. Capehart led a club institute. Members voted to build porches and refinish the exterior. Material will be ordered and work will start soon. Wisdom Ladies' Aid held its annual bazaar in the Community building with a large display of fancy work and a successful card party.
