The Beaverhead County High School Instrumental Music Department will present its annual spring concert Monday evening May 22 at 8 15 o clock in the training school auditorium under director L A Gregory. Miss Eleanor Moritz of Manhattan was crowned May queen at the Montana State Normal College May fete before 1,500 in the college gym. The pageant featured 300 dancers and singers in “Dances at the Olympics” with nations represented. Moritz is a sophomore, daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Moritz, and active in Kampus Kadets, Kappa Zeta Nu, and other groups.

Beaverhead Pioneer Isaac Rife Dies at 82
Isaac Rife Sr., 82, Beaverhead County pioneer and long time Medicine Lodge rancher, died after years of illness. Born January 31, 1857 in Ontario, he moved to Montana in 1879 and worked at Bannack, carried mail on horseback, and guided cattle trips to Calgary before settling at Medicine Lodge in 1884. He celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary prior to his death.

Gov Roy Ayers urged the federal agriculture department to provide funds immediately to combat grasshoppers on crop and idle lands in eastern and southeastern Montana citing early warm weather and large hatch. Lima hosts children clinic and junior baseball kickoff
A Lima clinic for children opened the day with a diphtheria inoculation and smallpox vaccination available. The city league baseball teams sponsored by the Elks Moose and Legion begin practice this week with boys aged 10 to 17 reporting to city hall. Beaverhead Post of the American Legion will field a junior team from the three squads for games in Lima and towns including Twin Bridges Sheridan and Wisdom. The Red Cross helped cover clinic costs and public health nurse Margaret E Teloran noted the P T A summer roundup for infants and preschoolers also occurred. Children from Dell Monida and Lima areas received care. Roy Ford of Jackson visited his mother Ellan Ford.

Defendants in Two Cases Are Guilty of Robbery
Three defendants in two criminal cases were found guilty by juries in district court this week. Carl H Rumbaugh and Dale Rumbaugh were tried for burglary of the Lima club operated by George Michelish. Carl Rumbaugh received a 10 year sentence. Dale Rumbaugh faces sentencing by the court. County Attorney Leonard Schulz prosecuted.

Dillon Women’s Club Picnic Planned at Cornell’s Grove
The Dillon Women’s Club and Dillon Business and Professional Women will hold their annual outdoor picnic at Cornell’s Grove on the city's edge tonight. Beaver Wins First Place at Missoula
The Beaver, Beaverhead county high school weekly, won first in Class B at the state interscholastic meet in Missoula. Staff members accompanied by Fay Kirkpatrick, sponsor, and printed by Examiner Printing. Track squad scored 3.4 points. Pierce placed fourth in the 100 yard dash and Wilcox tied for second in the high jump. Sheridan won Class B state meet led by Hill with a new state discus mark.

Sheepshearer Dies of Heart Attack at Grasshopper Ranch
Charles Sorenson, a 50 year old transient sheepshearer, collapsed and died Wednesday afternoon while shearing at the Clarence Anderson ranch in Grasshopper valley. Death attributed to a heart attack. Born in Moroni Utah in 1859 he and his wife came to Dillon from Utah this spring. Body sent to Utah for interment.

M Day Observed at State Normal and Lima Reservoir Outing Planned
A Sunday outing around Lima reservoir is being arranged by Water Users Irrigation Co with Frank A. Hazelbaker noting many Dillon and Beaverhead residents will join. The reservoir holds more water than ever. Wednesday marks M day at the Normal College with no classes if weather allows. Local dignitaries spoke at commencements and a Chanticleer banquet initiated several pledges and Matrix members in journalism circles.

Farmers Union Plans Annual Picnic June 11
The Farmers Union will hold its county picnic on June 11 announced by Genevieve Buhrer the newly appointed secretary. A speaker from the state Farmers Union office will attend. The Beaverhead Silver Bow group secretary Mrs Jack Keenan has resigned, the executive board regretfully accepted. A Lavon quarterly meeting drew many including Elk Park members Jefferson county with a panel on cooperative medicine. Mrs. Caroline H. Stocker, 79, died Sunday at her South Washington street home after a long illness. Born September 17, 1860 in Stone Creek Ohio, she came to Beaverhead county in 1910 with husband L. C. Stocker. Surviving daughters Anna Eva May. sons Roy and Harry. funeral held yesterday at the Stocker home with Rev. Leonard Thompson officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery.

Car Crash Injures Shearer Near Barretts Montana
Montpelier Idaho sheep shearer Gus Hackworth injured when a car driven by Joseph Sauter overturned on the highway near Barretts south of Dillon. Sauter unhurt and John Peterson helped remove Hackbarth and Sauter. Hackbarth admitted to Barrett hospital after midnight with injuries.
