Dillon Elks Host Annual Mother's Day Program
The Dillon Elks held their annual Mother's Day program at the training school auditorium drawing a large audience. Frank R. Venable of Butte spoke on mothers of the nation, followed by orchestra and Elks quartet performances and vocal solos. Exalted Ruler E. W. Johnson presided as flowers were provided by the State Greenhouse and Floral company.

County Commissioners Hold May Meeting Minutes

Farmers Union Dinner Draws Three Hundred Guests
A Beaverhead Big Hole Farmers Union dinner at the Country Inn was attended by about 300 members and guests. Sheriff McCollum also reported arrest of a John Doe suspect linked to recent county thefts and asked locals to inspect missing items from cars. The man’s car contained spare tires, blankets, robes, and tools. authorities continue inquiries in other areas.

May Fete at Montana State Normal College Friday
The annual May fete, Cabin in the Cotton, will be staged in the college gym Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Over 300 students and training school pupils participate under the Women’s Athletic Association. Janet Aldrich and four others are candidates for queen. The Little Symphony, directed by Frances Robinson, and the men’s glee club, directed by Mrs. Grace Redburn, perform familiar southern melodies and dances.

Rev T J Simons Dies Suddenly in Miller South Dakota
The Rev T J Simons pastor of the First Presbyterian church Miller South Dakota died of a heart attack Monday aged 66. Born in Verdan Illinois he spent his youth there and served his first pulpit before coming to Dillon six years ago from South Dakota. His body will be sent to Jacksonville Illinois for interment. The community mourns his loss as a sincere worker and leader in religion.

Wedum Elected Commander of Beaverhead American Legion
J C Wedum was elected commander of the Beaverhead post of the American Legion at the Metlen hotel. He succeeds Parke T Scott of Armstead, with Harvey Sorenson having withdrawn. Ben Davis named vice commander and others appointed to post offices. The post plans uniforms for a Junior baseball team and a fundraising dance. Argenta Miner Narrowly Escapes in Wreck at Oregon Short Line Crossing
A car driven by Loren Eberline of Argenta was badly wrecked after a collision with a switch engine at the Reeder street crossing of the Oregon Short Line Saturday night. Eberline escaped with only minor injuries as the car was hurled against a nearby switching station. The locomotive was reported traveling at a moderate rate of speed.

Sixty Beaverhead County High School seniors will receive diplomas at the annual commencement Thursday evening May 24 in the high school gym. Baccalaureate services are Sunday at 8 o clock at Grace Methodist Church with Rev J A Meeke delivering the address. The department of music presents its annual concert Monday at 8 in the gym with band and orchestra directed by L A Gregory and vocal groups led by Mildred Buckenberg Gladys Burtch and Kenneth Barry as accompanists. Over 100 students will take part, with no admission charged. Class day is Wednesday evening and the year ends Thursday.

Forty Carloads Of Cattle Leave Armstead Friday
A record shipment of 40 carloads of cattle departed Armstead last Friday for the George A Hormel Packing Company plant in Austin Minnesota. The move brings Beaverhead county’s four week total to 80 carloads with about 2000 cattle, a potential local record for a single firm in such a short span. The initial shipment previously set a speed record from Armstead, chosen over closer points because the Divide road is under construction.
