Cash taken from the vault during yesterday at noon. the theft was discovered late yesterday by Treasurer Norah Connelley. Authorities investigation ongoing into the impaired security and potential suspects.
Sheriff reports two men and a woman suspected in a Beaverhead county treasurer vault theft. Cash and valuables taken, crime discovered after ranch worker finds scattered legal papers along the highway near Dillon. Further details available on page 6.
The graduating class of the high school marks a new record with 74 graduates. Officials credit strong enrollment and improved academic programs for the milestone as families celebrate the ceremony and look ahead to next year.
Beaverhead County High School will award diplomas to its largest senior class, 74 students, at commencement next Thursday May 23 in the school gym. Activities begin with baccalaureate Sunday at Grace Methodist Church delivered by Rev. Harvey J. Schmidt.
County residents learn Beaverhead will host a saturday may 18 meeting at the city hall with Governor Cooney and state leaders to discuss a comprehensive water conservation program and a Dillon Whitehall highway project. Attending officials include R R Purcell J S James state engineer L J Croninberghs and others.
Lorraine McGrath, Beaverhead county high school declamation winner, presented China Blue Eyes at the Rotary Club dinner Monday. She, runner up in last year’s state contest, will again compete in the state meet this week representing the local high school. Brief Rotary convention reports from Helena were given by Dr. Sheldon E. Davis Frank A Hazelbaker Tom Luebben W. W. Wahl and Dr. Walter H. Stephan.
Three Beaverhead county men active in Montana livestock groups attended a Salt Lake City weekend meeting on the Taylor grazing act. W. G. Gilbert led Montana Woolgrowers, Joe Metlen served as Montana Stockgrowers vice president, and Howard E. Morse is a Taylor act advisor member.
Dora Smith was elected president of the Dillon Business and Professional Women's club at the regular meeting last Wednesday night at the Andrus hotel. Mary Polich was named vice president, Elizabeth Winn recording secretary, Nellie Jensen corresponding secretary.
The Beaverhead county high school weekly notes its senior edition honoring the graduating class with editor roles shared by Francis Tonrey and Bill Bayerd. Miss Faye Kirkpatrick sponsors the edition dedicated to Principal W W Wahl. A Legion post meeting heard details of a large Fourth of July program including a Dillmont park dance and county fairgrounds sports event with a trapshooting contest. Memorial Day services are planned with veterans' graves decorated at Mountain View cemetery.
Mrs. Matilda Smith wife of Albert Smith died at her Wisdom home at 2 30 a m Sunday following an illness. She was an old timer in the community and leaves a family.
L. K. Adams of Dil Lon will take a leading role at a joint meeting of Shriners in Helena on May 25. Algeria Baghdad and Al Bedoo temples join for what organizers call the greatest ceremonial in state history. The event will feature a mammoth parade closing the proceedings with more than 130 cities and towns entering.
B J Metlen vice president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association and Beaverhead County’s state legislature representative will be among principal speakers at the annual state conference.
Dillon Gun Club defended the state championship with a third straight 75 score. Five perfect 25s led the team to a commanding win last Sunday, maintaining their hold on the title with a strong margin.
Roscoe Taylor former Beaverhead county man died last Wednesday morning in Butte after a lingering illness. His funeral was held Friday afternoon from the First Baptist church in Dillon with Miss Mary Ayres conducting the services. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. He was born October 17 1889 in Bannack and spent his youth in Dillon before moving to Butte in recent years.

Ruth Phelps of Deer Lodge was crowned queen of the May fete at the Normal college gymnasium with over a thousand spectators in attendance. Four attendants accompanied her as Princess White Cloud, including Erma Cusker Wolf Point Rae Harrington Chateau Grace Frost Eureka and Mildred Spaberg Polson. The program featured 256 numbers from the Men’s glee club and Little Symphony orchestra, reflecting weeks of preparation under Marjorie Hamer director of physical education for women.
Mayor D. A. Galt urges regulation support to improve law enforcement. He proposes installing six flashing signal lights in Dillon's business area three on Montana street and three on Idaho street, controlled by the telephone office so officers can be summoned by flash at night.
B C Cates of Bozeman aid to the state biological survey met with County Agent Bernard Williams and other officials to outline a gopher extermination campaign. Crews will be appointed to treat roads under FERA while landowners poison their own land. if ranchers fail, the county will do the work and bill the ranch taxes.
Mr and Mrs George Mellen spent Sunday as guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Ike Rife on Medicine Lodge.
A fire likely from a defective exhaust pipe at the Delcought plant destroyed the Frank Pendleton ranch residence, bunk house, storeroom and blacksmith shop near Wisdom. About twenty neighbors saved most household goods and personal items. insurance partly covers the loss. The Pendleton family has moved into a nearby dwelling.
